I am going to wait on this one. This is something that I found when researching this question:
In 1906 William Durant persuaded French racing star Albert Champion to sell his spark plug business and come to work at Buick Motor Car Co. in Flint Michigan to manufacture spark plugs for Buick.
Could this be a typo for LP and they meant ALBERT and not ALEX?
Edited to add:
I think that I must be right on the above. I also found this:
Frenchman, Albert Champion was a bicycle and motorcycle racer who immigrated to the United States in 1889 to race. As a sideline, Champion manufactured and sold spark plugs to support himself.
That makes me mad! Because I found the Albert Champion stuff but it wasn't an option. So I kept searching and found something about a William Champion. There goes 25 points. Guess I'll stop trying to answer trivia so early in the morning....
