How & when do you make reservations for the Luau Dinner Show?

Go to SeaWorld's website (www.seaworld.com), click on "Orlando", then click on "Dining", then click on "Book Dining Now". That will bring up the page to make reservations. It looks like they are taking reservations through 6/30/07 now.

FWIW, the folks on the phone say they'll book up to a year ahead.

I booked 6 months in advance with no problem. It was well worth the money. Although it made for a long day. I would do it again and just not arrive at the park so early in the morning.

So the food/show is actually good?

I only first saw this when I clicked the "Book Dining Now" button. I 've never heard anything about it till now.

Can anybody give a rundown on what's it like? The site has very few details.

We were 2 adults, 1 teen, and 2 kids. We checked in and got a complimentary drink (with alcohol for the adults) and a lai. Then we had our picture taken with a very pretty lady in Polynesian dress.
Our table happened to be right next to the stage, so we were happy about that. We shared the table with 3 other people.
The kid's meals were hotdogs and fries in a plastic Shamu lunchbox (for lack of a better word). They got special cups as well.
Our food was served family style and you help yourself. There was a rice dish, a pork dish, fish, and chicken. I didn't eat alot but the only thing I didn't care for was the fish. We also had a sweet bread (pineapple?) to start and that was super good. I forget what dessert was.
But the show was the best part. It was non-stop! They kept changing costumes and dance styles. At one point they invited kids onstage to learn the hula. Then they had a drumming competition with men from the audience. It was fun! The kids loved it.
I was really grumpy when we checked in because my DH and my teen were running late to meet us there. By the end of the dinner I was in much better spirits. And I wasn't even drinking! LOL.

Thanks for details, it sounds like fun and there is enough variety in the food choices to find something you like.

Do you remember when the show started and how long it lasted? I'm also trying to get a handle on how it would fit into our plans since I'm just now seeing the show even exists.

We went on a night the park was closing early so we weren't missing anything. This was back in May. I think the dinner was 6pm?
The only thing I would do different is come later in the day. From opening till 6pm was a LONG day for all of us.
We got kind of screwed up because we had booked the behind the scenes polar tour and they stuck us with a time right in the middle of the day so we couldn't leave to take a break. (I wouldn't recommend that particular tour.) If you are going for just one day and you are committed to be there when they open I would suggest a break and come back in the park an hour or so before the Luau.
I forgot exactly how long it was, but I would guess almost 2 hours.

Thanks for the start time. Do you remember how long the show lasted?

Long days don't bother us. We are used to doing Disney parks from opening till closing which is always longer than the 9am to 6pm hours Seaworld will likely have during our visit. For example, we are looking at multiple 9am to 11pm Disney days because of EMH.

The Luau lasted about 1 1/2 hrs. the last time I went. BTW, while the park "closes" at 6:00, the Luau goes on until 8:00.

Our kids are DS3, DD7 and DS9
Do you think the Luau or Dine with Shamu would be more fun for them?
Also, is there a Shark Dinner?

We are eating at Coral Reef already one night, so want a little different experience than that if possible.

Is dinner served and enjoyed before the show or during the show? The show sounds fantastic, but I don't like the idea of having to eat while trying to watch a show.

The dinner is served during the show.

Even though you're eating and enjoying the show at the same time, it still takes the full 1 1/2 hrs. to complete the event.

Have to say this show is a hidden gem the entertainment is excellent and the food is far superior to any other dinner show, we had a front table directly in front of the stage and I'm glad that safety net was erected when I saw those swords the only thing that spoiled it was at the end you got the usual tipping advice handed to you that you get at Pirates dinner show etc which seemed poor for SW to do, that being said I just booked online for next April again and if u are a SW passport holder u get a hefty discount

How do people get seated in front. First to check-in?

Hi we booked quite a bit in advance so that maybe how they allocate seating not too sure , although I have to say doubt if there was a bad seat in theater, enjoy

Well, that happens because the Luau is performed by contractors not SW employees.
