Luau at Polynesian with DxDDP

WDW help is confusing me; ergo not much of a help.

Elsa in the chat says that even though we have the DxDDP that we have to pre-pay for the entire luau and that when we show up and pay with the dining plan that they will refund our card. We cannot just reserve we have to pre-pay no matter what.

Karma in the chat says that because we have the DxDDP we can do like with do with CRT and use a card to hold it but not have to actually pay the cash. Then when we show up we just pay with the dining plan and are done with it.

Which one is correct?

Also, I know we get Cat 2 or 3 seating but can we pay an upgrade fee and get Cat 1 seating?

No, you should not have to pay in full if you already have DDP on your room reservation.

However. If you are trying to reserve online, it doesn't always work. It may try to charge you in full even though you are attempting to link the reservation with a room reservation that has dining plan added. Do not click for payment if you see that the site is telling you that you need to pay in full.

You may need to call 407-WDW-DINE and have your resort reservation number handy if you have a dining plan and wish to avoid full prepayment.

With the dining plan, you cannot get Category 1 seating at the luau and you cannot pay extra on top of the credits to upgrade to Category 1 seating. You can book Category 2 or 3 seating only.

You need to link your Disney reservation to your account - then when you go to book anything that needs a pre-pay you will not have to pay because they will see your dining plan. However, you still need to give a credit card number - they will not charge it unless you do not show up for your reservation. I've done this both online and calling in and have never had a problem. There is no way I would pre-pay since the dining plan is essentially my pre-payment already.
