I really need help. Making my ADR and we have never been to the poly lua. I hear mixed reviews. HELP I have DH, DS 17 and DD 14 ?????

I would love to know, too!!! I've always thought it sounds like so much fun, but am a little afraid it's cheesy and overpriced for the food...

I have never posted to any forum for any reason, but if I can spare anyone the horrible experience my daughter & I had, it wil be worth it! -over 1 1/2 hrs after our reservation, we were seated. Then we had horrible service and bad food, all while people's kids ran out of control crashing into our table and spilling our food/drinks. We could get no water or refills on drinks, food was cold and sparse, and it was very loud and stressful. Not at all a fun gathering but rather horrible racket and chaos! We tried for 45 minutes to ge tthe bill when we were done, and were never so happy to be out of anywhere. All other resturants we dined at were fine, but this was so awful! Food was inedible and the staff didn't care.

We've been there twice. The first time was a GREAT experiance, and was TOTALLY worth every penny! The food was great, service was great and the entire experiance was enjoyable.
The second time we were there the food was room temp, the service was OK and the show was still great, but My family doesn't like to pay BIG money unless the food is good at a place- no matter how good the show is!

We went in Sept. 07. The food was so so. Nothing great at all. The show was a little cheesy. The final "fire" guy was the best part of the whole night. They pack you into long narrow tables, it is constantly loud, and by the way...there was only one bus that left 10 minutes after the show ended. Hello, a couple hundred people on one bus??? ANYWAY...I would definitely not spend either the money nor the 2 table service credits unless you absolutely had no other choices. Our kids aged 6 - 14 were all totally not thrilled.

My DMum had always wanted to do it, so for my parents 40th anniversary trip, I booked it as a surprise for her. :thumbsup2 Our experience was October 2006, so not really recent.

DD (5 y.o. at the time) absolutely loved it - she watched the stage continually and hardly moved the whole time! :hippie:

DDad, DMum and I all thoroughly enjoyed the show and found the food to be good. I am a picky eater and even I was full after the show. ;)

DH wouldn't have really cared if he'd attended this dinner show or not. He didn't hate it, but he was all embarrassed when he was picked out of the crowd by one of the dancers. All he had to do was pick something up and sit back down again - but he's funny that way! :lmao:

We always got refills of our drinks (often without even asking) and found the servers to be efficient and polite. :thumbsup2

Would I do this again? Yes - definately! :goodvibes

I would recommend it based on our expierence.

The service was great, always had our drinks full and always had the food coming. Ribs and chicken were great and as soon as they were finished, they brought out more of each (we went through 3 or 4 rounds)

The show is alittle cheesy but its good none the less. The fire guy at then end is amazing.

I say 9/10.

Well, as I can see, I am getting the hot and cold responses to the show. We have always done the Hoop De Doo, so I think we will try the Poly this time. If it is bad, it will be a one time deal, If it is good, maybe we will do it again. Thanks everyone.:worship:

I had the same experience. I thought the food was good (not great, but good). I enjoyed the entertainment - the fire guy was great! I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10, myself. But it's pretty expensive for what you get.

PS - I went in 2005, and happened to have made my ADR for the day after Hurricane Wilma went through! I tried to call the day before our ADR to cancel, and they wouldn't let me because we were within the 48-hour cancellation window. They wouldn't make an exception, even with the potential weather change due to the hurricane (we were afraid it would be cold and rainy, and didn't want to do an outdoor meal if that was the weather). Since they wouldn't refund our money, we went anyways and did have a good time --- but always think really hard about pre-paying for meals like this. Obviously, WDW is not flexible about cancellations even due to extreme weather!)

We've gone a couple times and we always opt to get there right at the last min.. Otherwise you literally stand around and wait to be seated....you can still get pics done also even if your towards the end. The food has always been very good....as has the service. Parts of the show are pretty cheesy.....but the majority of it is great and fun to watch. It's deffinately worth doing at least once IMO. :)

We did the luau in 2006 and enjoyed it. Like other's have posted, the food was OK, the service was good, and the fire guy was awesome. Our DD's were 1 and 3 at the time and they let some of the little ones go up on stage and learn how to hula for part of the show, which my DD loved, but they both were asleep by the end of it. Your kids are older, so they would probably appreciate it more than little ones would. I cannot comment on the transportation afterwards as we were staying at the Poly and just had to walk back to our rooms. I think it's definately worth a try, especially if you've done the others several times before.

We did the luau in sept of 06. We hated it. The food was cold. The service was slow and the show IMHO was somewhat cheesey. With the exception of the fire guy. I will never go again.

:rotfl:

Sorry but "lua" is toilet in Hawaiian! It's luau...sorry, it just struck me funny. :rolleyes1

We went as a family of 10. We had a good table and a good time. The food was okay, service was fine and the dancers were great. We'd go again.

For all you experts, I have a quick question. If DH and I decide to go in September, it will be the two of us. Will we have our own seperate table or is it like Biergarten where you have to sit with others?

TIA!
