Possibly.......
Though I will say that creative cloud (Lightroom + Photoshop CC) for $9.99 per month is a pretty good deal. I mostly use Lightroom but in photoshop is useful for the content-aware eraser and cloning stamps alone. And the knowledge that you get every update and upgrade.
Do I really have to buy new software?
In a nutshell, yes.
As far as I know LR3 will never support the new format of the 6D RAW files. That's what I have read, anyway.
If I have to buy LR 4 or 5, does it upgrade the 3, or does it load on as a completely separate program?
Separate program. Oh the joys of new technology!
It looks like Photoshop Elements uses the same Camera Raw as PS and LR, that's another option.
You actually don't have to buy new software! When you import raw files, have LR convert them to DNG, which is the Adobe equivalent of a raw file. It works just fine!
How can LR convert them? The entire problem is that there's no support for the RAW files coming out of the 6D.![]()
Adobe has a separate converter that you can download.
Yes, download the Adobe DNG Converter software then import the DNG files into LR3
Yes, I did this at work when I was stuck with CS2 and had a newer camera that was not supported by it's version of ACR. It is another step but it works and shows the silliness of every manufacturer having their own RAW file types.
