i often see a list of the top 20 DVC Point owners, that are on the DVC Discussion Board.
Does anyone, have alist, of the top 20 DVC least point owners.
I would be curious, if someone bought DVC resale and function just fine, with less than 150 DVC POINTS.

We have 50 OKW with a 25 point BWV add on and it's working out great for us, we love it! I don't have a lot of vacation time, we only go once every year or two.

I am extremely impressed? low capital outlay, low annual dues, meets your need?
how did you figure out, avoid, the 150 pt minimum, by purchasing resale, instead of retail?
did this board, help you in any way??

That's what I loved about it, we could try it out, see if it met our needs, and fit it in our budget without borrowing. We bought the 50 point OKW resale, and then did the add on through Disney. We're fairly borrowed out right now, but next year we're not going to Disney, so then we'll be back on track. I think of it as a sampler. We can stay at all the resorts, and if/when we want to expand we can be certain about which is our favorite home resort. This board helped me out incredibly, I wouldn't really have known much about it otherwise!

i am very confused, are you telling me that if you buy 50 OKW points, that is less than the 150 PT minium when you purchase retail thru DVC, you buy a 25 pts add on?

I cannot believe that, wow?

I thought you had to ahve a 150 pt minimum, to purchase DVC, original or add on, thru DVC and a guide?

I bought the OKW resale (through Pat Spell at the Timeshare Store). There is no minimum if you are buying resale, so you get around the 150 point minimum. Then Disney will allow any size add on, even if you are below the 150. It was incredibly easy to do the add on. Since we have so few points, when we've wanted to bring family I rented points. It was really nice, because they could be transferred into my account so I had control of them. None of those nightmares of showing up and having the reservation canceled and unable to track down the owner...

I actually should clarify a little, you can't do ANY size add on, it's the usual Disney restrictions, 25 minimum for cash, and 50 minimum for financing. It's a great option if you don't go EVERY year, but very often. 150 points seemed like a really big commitment to us.

I am incredibly impressed.

I wonder sometimes, IF i shoudl have just bought a 50 pt OKW contract to get me into DVC and then rented points 4 around $9.50 per point, esecpially since, once into dvc, you can have points transferred into yoru DVC MEMBERSHIP

no big capital outlay
no closing costs to buy or sale, your dVc poitns
no annual dues of around $4.00perpoint.

I have put an order in for only 82 points. I am just waiting to see if Disney exercises their ROFR (13 days and counting). 82 points for me is a good start as I only expect to visit WDW every two years. In addition, I will either travel by myself or with one additional guest. So all I need is a studio. So I do not view it as only having 82 points, I see it as having 164 points for each trip.

The best part is that if I feel I need more points, I can purchase a small add-on.

Resell is definitely the way to go if you do not need a lot of points to start.

Here is hoping I can soom call myself a DVC member

Well, it's a tie for first! Umm...I mean, last. Well, you know what I mean.

We own 75 points as well. Got a resale through www.DVCByResale.com (Shontell) and it's worked out great for us so far. Only problem is that we hit some weekend nights on the first go 'round and had to use up a lot more points than what I had originally intended to do.

The good thing about getting the resale that we did was the fact that it had all of the 2002 points banked! So, we started out with 150 points even though we really only purchased a 75 point contract. So, we splurged on a 1-BR unit at OKW (home resort) to start our DVC membership out!

I feel that it's a great thing to get in 'low' with a small resale (especially with banked points!) and add on as your lifestyle changes.

We have just a 50 point contract at vwl (plus banked points). We won't go that often and I will rent when I need more. The two year trend of discounted rooms at disney vs. increasing dues is my long-term concern for large contracts. I guess we might consider another 30-40 pts at BCV or BWV for the EPCOT access but that would be it.

I found your post very interesting. I hope you will consider starting a new thread to deal with your concerns of increasing annual dues.
#1. I am also concerned about increasing annual dues
#2. I feel we are being grossly overcharged, for our annual dues.
I hestitate to bring this subject up, because I get so harshy criticized by other, who feel, I am completely wrong on the subject.

I understand that you can get a great deal on a room from disney these days. Anyway, I don't see room rates going up anytime soon. However, we will see continued inflation + in our dues which can erode the value of our contracts. Its still a good value for the right people - including us, but I am cautious about this. I really don't put a lot of value on the life of the contract as I think there is a real risk of Disney sticking it to us as soon as they decide to stop building these things. Some folks have made a nice capital gain on DVC (or any other real estate investment) over the last 10 years. You just can't expect that to continue.

KANSAS< I don't think anyone harshly criticizes you for your concern about dues, but it is a subject that you bring up frequently and you receive basically the same responses each time.

My concern for you is that you feel like you made a bad purchase, since any of your posts are about financial concerns and the value you feel you are getting (or not getting).

When we bought opur first contract in 1997, I rememebr our guide Mark Webb telling us to take our time and decide, because Disney likes members to be sure they understand the program thoroughly, because they don't want anyone to be unhappy or feel they have meade a poor decision. I get the feeling from the majority of your posts that you fall into the category of people who feel they've made a bad decision.

Either that or you're a "DVC mole" just trying to feel people out.;)
