There is a chance that I will be offered a job at Lowes Home Improvement store this week. Does anyone currently work there and if so, how is it? I've been in retail over 20 years so the usual stuff (weird work hours, bad bosses) doesn't bother me but I was wondering about the "culture" of the company.

DH works at Lowes in the summer and likes it. He said his boss has always been pretty flexible with hours. He started out at about a $1 more than home depot. They are very anti-Home Depot.

I know that trainer throughly on OScHA for 3 weeks I think. I know it was at least 2. I still use that training today at my job that I am on now.

Don't work at Lowes or have relatives who do, but I have observed this: All the employees at my local Lowes have been with them for years...*years*! And they're always happy and very helpful when I go in with questions. I don't often observe "happy" workers in retail stores these days. Maybe this says something. :confused3

My Dh works at Lowes and really seems to enjoy it. He started as seasonal cashier, got offered postion on redesign team and is now a product service associate which basically means he sets up displays in various depts. ( He's got 4-5 depts). He also has to change tags on shelves, pulled discontinued models, put up new models etc. He has been with company going on 4 yrs now. Oh and if you are a Nascar fan they seem to get a lot of Jimminy Johnson stuff over the course of year. Pay raises are small but happen frquently from what I've seen. Also employees get 10% discount in store and they have extra discounts a couple time a yr.

My co-workers daughter (mid- 20's) works at a Lowe's in NJ and from what I hear she loves it. She moved up the ladder pretty quickly and is now some type of manager. She hasn't been there long (maybe a year or two) and although she has a college degree she likes it there and does her other career as a side job.

:thumbsup2 I agree to this.

I just did not like all the training that you have to do. If it was useful well maybe, but I spent so much time on stupid stuff it was not even funny! I was hired as customer service/ cashier. and just all the things without skews etc! standing on your feet for 10 hours sucked! yes, I had worked retail management for 30 +years, I just did not like the dirty atmosphere either, and I happen t LOVE tools etc!! I also thought the discount sucked.

My husband worked at Lowes this summer when he was in-between jobs. He worked in the lumber department. Other than the crazy hours, he didn't mind it too much. His store seemed pretty good about scheduling. As long as he asked ahead of time, it was fairly easy for him to request not to work certain evenings in order for him to attend a class he was taking.
