Lowery's Vacation Homes: Beware !

We rented an appartment at Windsor Palms over Easter. We made arrangements directly with the owner but were required to collect the key and leave a deposit with Lowerys Vacation Homes who are situated in that group of shops where the Winn-Dixie is at the junction of Formosa Gardens Boulevard and US 192.

Last week I got my credit card statement and found Lowerys had made a charge of $75 to my account on the day we left. The odd thing was that was a Sunday and they were closed. Turns out they applied for the charge on the Saturday i.e. before we left. I asked the owner if he knew what it was for. He emailed them and they replied to him that the cleaner said we'd damaged the carpets and had reported the damage the day AFTER we left - 2 days after they made the charge ! We didn't damage anything and left the place on time and clean and tidy.

I have emailed Lowerys myself but they do not reply to me. I've given them the opportunity to own up to a mistake but they don't and between that, the dates and the fact that they don't respond to my emails I can only conclude that something dishonest is taking place.

Can the owner not refund you the money?

Most villa owners we have rented off take some sort of damage insurance payment off you beforehand, they then refund the money after the holiday.
This company obviously just take the money! If you want me to stick a nasty note through the letterbox when we go in August just let me know.

Hi

Have you spoken to your credit card company and say it was unauthorised transaction? We have in the past been charged and we had to fill in a form to get the money back saying they are not getting in contact with me. I am sure they will try and get your money back. I would even email the company and say if that you are proceeding to take legal action for a unauthorised transaction unless they refund within 48 hours, still contact your credit card company.
