Lower Rates at Swan/Dolphin

lou7401...s/d is not owned/operated by Disney it is a Sheraton resort (I'm pretty sure)

I am a registered ultrasound tech, and registered rad. tech. Is the "nurses" rate good for me? I have the same level of education as a nurse, and get paid roughly the same, I am in allied health, so could I qualify for this rate? :earsgirl:

From what I've heard, it's just for nurses. My feeling is to rotate professions every few years. You are very lucky. In the Northeast, nurses make more than tech's. I think there are so many deserving professions that could use a rate break! Look at the folks who work for charities and the staff in medical offices.

I wonder why they give only certain professions discounts? Why do they get special treatment compared to others? Does Disney somehow 'value' them more?

Just curious.

Not sure *why* those professions and not others - I feel left out too! But I want to remind you that Swan/Dolphin are NOT Disney-owned so we can't blame them!

Thanks for the info. About this Swan/Dolphin deal... I am wondering if the spouse of a teacher, government employee, or nurse can use the discount if the qualifying employee is not going on vacation with the family? Probably not since you need employee ID.

Thanks,
Tink

I have recruiters calling me every week, looking for ultrasound techs. One of them told me that there is a shortage of US techs all over the country EXCEPT in the NE!! That is probably why our payscales are closer to the RN's than yours. But an x-ray tech makes alot less, probably around $4.00/ hour less. I know that in Florida, the US techs make less, but the cost of living is higher. (we are in Oklahoma). That is why I cannot convince DH to make the move to the sunshine state!! I would LOVE to be near the beaches and WDW!!! :teeth:

this rate sounds so good. i want to book now! but why is disney leaving out EMS personnel? it seems like EMS is constantly being forgotten when it comes to a lot of things, like 9/11. my husband is a paramedic and it bothers him that paramedics and EMTs are not recognized as much as fire fighters and police officers. i do hope that paramedics get this great offer too. is there any way to find out if they qualify just as well?

I booked from this link. I believe it's affiliated with this site. If you go to the book on line link there is a page to check your dates for availability. On that page is a Do you qualify for these discounts? link. The police and firefighters appear in the government employee discount. Government discounts are for federal, state, and local government employees. Do the paramedics in your community work for local government? If so you're in luck!

Hope this helps. Even with the tax and resort fee it's a great deal for the location. I've wanted to stay here for years and I'm finally going to get my wish!

i called the phone number last night and they told me as long as my DH has a government ID, we can get the discount. and he does!! so i just have to talk him into going to either swan or dolphin. i want the swan. thanks for the info carolyn.

my DH and I are both clergy, and we've heard about the days when ministers got discounts. No more of those.

Police officers are local/state government employees and should qualify.

I was just able to book the Swan for $169/night over Christmas weekend...wheee

I wonder if they will extend this deal through December. Anybody know from a historical perspective what they offer for us nurses then?

I was wondering the same, possibly looking at going the first week of December and wondering if they will have discount for nurses? Anyone remember if they had professional discounts las t December? :earsboy: :earsgirl: :wizard: :wizard:

Yes, they did have professional disocunts last December--DH and I stayed at the Dolphin for 3 nights in December 2004. I'm an RN and I checked out the nurses rates but was actually able to book a slightly cheaper rate through Travelocity.
