Hi! Is there anyone out there in DisAbilities land that follows a Low FODMAP diet? Have you done it at WDW?? Any tips? I think we're making the plunge to low FODMAP to help hubs' tummy troubles.

My daughter does (except that she can eat wheat). She is no sugar at all. We specify what she can eat and how to prepare it. She is very satisfied with the food she receives.

I would caution against using the term FODMAPs with the chefs. I was very specific about what she could and could not have.

I agree.
Even if the chefs know what those initials mean (I do not), their understanding may be different than the person using the term.

In general, it's safer to be specific as mamma2ellie described.

It really depends on "how" low-fodmap you have to be. Table service locations will work with you based on the ingredients they have, and CS will have less flexiblity, as always.

Based on my GI state, I can vary from moderate fodmap (which I handled at WDW mostly via portion control and leaving things on my plate) to ultra low fodmap (my flare diet is white rice and scrambled eggs, which I know that the resort CS can make for you any time of the day.)

I used the book IBS: Free at Last, and the website at http://www.ibsfree.net/ to test my way out of my flare diet. Note that there are corrections to the book on the website, and there's significant natural variation in terms of which categories you can tolerate, and which specific foods. This makes "low FODMAP" harder to explain to chefs. I agree with the prior poster - you just have to be very specific about what you can't eat. Often it's easier to be specific about what you can eat.
