We were doing Atkins like this:

Breakfat- Eggs/Cheese and Sausage
Lunch- Burger patty w/ Salad
Dinner- Steak or Beef w/ veggies

And I dropped the weight off quickly

Now We do:

Breakfast- Don't force myself to eat this anymore, eat an early lunch
Lunch- Salad w/ all sorts of yummy fresh veggies, tuna
Dinner- Lean Pork, Chicken or Turkey w/ Veggies

And I'm not loosing as fast, do I need more "fat" in my diet... how weird does that sound. I read a post saying that you need fat on Atkins, but I thought you needed protien more than fat... help! Am I hurting my weight loss by eating the leaner meats?

(Blood Pressure and cholestorol aside, I have no problems in these areas).

Depending on how much you eat for lunch and dinner, and what kind of snacks (if any) you're having, you may not be getting enough calories, and are hurting your metabolism in the process. (You didn't mention how long you've been trying the low fat version - a week or two shouldn't do any real damage, but long term, it's probably not a good idea.)

I don't do Atkins, so I don't really know about the different issues. However I would say that, if that is all you are eating for your lunch and dinner, then you are not having enough calories. You need to have at least 1200 calories per day. You might want to go back to having a breakfast, and try having a couple of snacks in between you meals and see how you go. Good luck! :hyper:

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day..no matter what plan you are on..never skip it.

What type of salad dressing are you using????

Low fat salad dressing has way to much sugar in it for you to say you are on atkins..it wouldn't be allowed.

Thought I was missing something, we do have a serving of Breyer's Carb Ice Cream once in awhile. I will have to check the calories for the foods we are eating and make sure we are getting enough. I'm so use to loosing 3-4 pounds a week, that this .5-1 pound a week is really stinky...lol. It's like I am at a hault. I Don't use low fat dressing, regular full on Blue Cheese for me.

I agree with the others. Breakfast can't be skipped and it sounds like you're not eating enough. Make sure you snack. I, too, am on a low fat Atkins. My doctor stressed how important breakfast is as well as snacking - if you're not hungry, eat 1/4 cup of nuts - you'll find it will satisfy you until dinner and your taste buds will thank you! Take care!

In his book, Dr. Atkins stresses that low fat Atkins won't work well. He says that you need the fat to drop the weight.

Do you have the book?

I dont mean to sound rude but, if you say you are doing a low- fat atkins or a modified atkins then you are really not doing atkins at all, I hate hereing terms like those, because they are the things that give atkins a bad name.the only atkins program is the one that you follow right out of the book, if you modify the program to fit your want's or needs then you are not doing it corectly and will most likely not get much out of it. *stepping of my soap box* please everyone dont take this as being rude, im just sick of all the put downs atkins gets.

Not Modified, I eat the servings allowed, etc... I just wondered if by not eating the red meat as often if I was hurting my weight loss thats all.

Eat the fat. Even my bariatric surgeon says protein first, fats second - carbs dead last. He doesn't endorse Atkins per-se, but he said that those who follow the low carb diets do much better in the long run.

There's actually a part in the Atkins book that says it's "dangerous" to do low-carb and low fat at the same time! I think I also read this in Dana Carpender's book "How I Gave Up my Low Fat Diet and Lost 40 Pounds". It's a very good book - I highly recommend it!

Does anyone know how many fat grams we should be getting a day? I'm going to try adding some cheese again. I wasn't purposly going lo-fat, just ended up that way when I got home from shopping. DFiance was a little tired of all the red meat.

Cheese is a great and healthy way to get more good fat. As a woman you need the calcium that the cheese offers. As an Atkins follower you need the fat. It's the perfect combination!!!

You may also have hit a plateau. If this is the case you need to start really paying attention again. Are you exercising? Do you need to restart with induction? These are all things to consider when your weight loss slows considerably.

good luck!

The best version of "low-fat Atkins" is actually the South Beach Diet. The first phase of South Beach is very similar to Atkins, but advocates avoiding high-saturated fat foods - using lean cuts of protein and eating "good" fats like olive oil. In the second phase, you concentrate on adding "good" carbohydrates back into your diet...good = whole grain breads, pasta & even beans. These are eaten in extreme moderation.

While I eat low-carb - mostly in Atkins style and try to keep my carb count between 20-25/day, I also choose to eat leaner cuts of meat, more fish and chicken than bacon, prime rib and other fattier cuts of beef. We also limit our intake of eggs to no more than 4 per week because my DH has high cholesterol. Most of my dietary fat intake comes from full-fat cheese (no more than 2 oz/day), nuts, avacados, half & half or cream, cottage cheese, olive oil & a little real butter for flavor.

The carbs I eat come mostly from veggies - 2 cups of salad greens and 1 cup of another high-fiber vegetable at the minimum each day. I will occasionally have a low-carb tortilla, piece of low-carb bread or low-carb roll.

When I first tried Atkins in 1999 - I lost weight rapidly. I was down 30 lbs in less than 3 months. This time around, since Nov. 2003, I am only down 26 lbs in over 6 months. My activity level is actually more this time around...so I have to blame age and a much slower metabolism for the slower loss.

Everybody's metabolism and physiology is different. You have to be willing to work with both your eating plan and excercise to find a solution that works for you. I admit that this can be extremely frustrating. The good side is that once you find it, you have developed a way to become and stay healthy for life...not just a short-term diet solution that stops as soon as you reach your weight goal.

you can also start adding vegetable fat if you are not much of a meat eater. Olive oil, raw almond, sunflowerseed crackers and avacados are my favorites.
