It's back to SB for us! We're on Phase 1, day 1. :upsidedow I'm starting this thread for ideas on meals, support, and motivation.

I'll start. Tonight we're having grilled steak, with steamed broccoli and cauliflower. I'm going to look for a "legal" sauce to put on the veggies. I think we'll have the ricotta dessert with lemon and vanilla.

SB'ers what are you having for dinner?

Are you still doing SB? I'm at the end of week one of phase 1 and would love to chat.

I guess from your first post you're doing phase 2 or 3? Does it get easier? Do the so-called cravings really go away?
I'm doing well finally. I thought I may die at the beginning, I never realized how much sugar I put in my body.

I'm doing a modified phase 3. I've lost 5 1/2 lbs. so far. Phase 1 was really tough for me. What I found helped most was to write down what I eat. It is good information as it helps a person determine patterns of eating and cravings.

Phase 1 I was pretty strict with myself, especially in the beginning. It was tough. I love sweets and starchy foods. But somehow I did it. Towards the end of phase 1 I started incorporating foods I normally eat with an eye on carbs, sugars, and calories. I don't eat foods with sugar anymore (desserts and such) and will try to maintain that. And I have been incorporating whole grains as much as possible. And I'm watching portion sizes.

My goal is to make a lifestyle change. I can't do S.B. for life. But I can do a modified S.B. program. I do have about 10 lbs to go. I had a slice of cherry pie last night. The cherries didn't have any sugar, it had splenda. So I do splurge now and then. I also love the S.B. cereal bars and the Carb Smart ice cream bars. If it wasn't for those things, I'd probably have a super hard time!

HTH!

Since you posted about recipes I'll tell you that I was shocked at how yummy and amazing the "mock" mashed potatoes were! I also really like ricotta pancakes. I'm finally past the end of week 1 and have lost between 5 and 7 lbs. I know that's ridiculous for a week and I'm thrilled, but I want to lose more. I think that I think I'll wake up tomorrow skinny:) I wish.
Right now I'm staying away from anything that comes in a box so no SB grocery store food for me. I'm trying to do what you said and make this a lifestyle change so no cupcakes all day every day. I'm a total cakeaholic (chocolate) and believe that Little Debbie is the Devil.

Please, if anyone else is reading this and you want to talk about SB or any low carb stuff, please post with us!

I really didn't want to buy S.B. stuff. I just wanted to modify my eating to the low carb w/o buying the stuff. But I love my desserts! It's my downfall. After wanting something sweet and fruit wasn't cutting it, I started getting the Carb Smart ice cream. It's wonderful! And so are the cereal bars! I also like the S.B. cereal and will have a bowl of that to keep the sweets craving at bay sometimes.

I have made the mock mashed potatoes with cauliflower. It was really good. I've been getting some good recipes from www.recipezaar.com, if you type in "South Beach Recipes" or "Low Carb Recipes" you'll be surprised at what you will get! :) I also typed in no sugar, low carb desserts and got some good results. I can't remember exactly how I worded it though.

I'd love to see some more recipes! Congratulations on your weight loss! I know you are happy. (I am too!)

Right now I'm starving and am ready to eat a hoagie. I went to the Phillies game and was good but I didn't eat enough before I left and the thought of anything I'm allowed makes me nauseous. I'm eating a cheese stick. ugh

I'm sure at the end of Phase 1 I'll buy all the grocery stuff you have, I'm trying to a clean P1 and am DYING right now :)

Phase 1 was tough. I never ate so many boiled eggs and cashews in my life. I haven't had a taste for boiled eggs since but I have had some cashews now and then.

I meant to add yesterday, the S.B. cereal has changed. There are two out now and the original (for me) is hard to find. There is one with dried strawberries and one vanilla and something. IMO they aren't as good as the original. So unless I see the kind I like, I buy something else. I have found that Kellogs Special K has few carbs and sugar (compared to others) and so does Wheaties. I like to get the no sugar chocolate syrup and pour a little over the cereal. It makes a chocolate milk and it tastes great. :) Little things like that get me through these days.

I'm surprised there isn't anyone else jumping in. I'm glad you found this thread. It's nice talking to you about it. :)

No one ever talks to me here so I'm surprised there's 2 of us! :)

I like hearing about the stuff you do because I'm a total neophyte with this. I need to lose at least 30 lbs and thought SB would be a good way to kick me into gear.

I laughed at the choc milk/cereal thing. Its something I would do but haven't thought about. If I eat properly all day my sweet tooth cravings kick in but I know I'm not eating enough so right now I'm not craving sweets but anything carbarific, heehee. I am however totally enjoying choc milk. I'm allergic to some nuts so I stay away from all of them. I think I'd have a hard time eating only the number allowed though so its ok.

In your OP you say "we". Is that your DH? How's he doing? I hear men DROP wt on this.

Yeah. We is me and DH. He's doing great. He's lost double what I have. Funny. We're doing practically the same things and that's the difference! Oh well. Good for him!

I did want to tell you that I've compared some of the stuff I normally eat carb/sugar/calorie wise and it's actually better than some of the S.B. diet recipes. Sloppy joe sauce is a good example. The carbs are only 9g, sugars 6g, and calories from fat 0. Total calories 40 per serving. That's not bad. We eat that from time to time with either no bread or with a tortilla, with the leftovers we'd add some kidney beans and cheese and put it on a tortilla like a burrito. Some of the carbs from recipes on the S.B. diet are a lot more than 9g so I might as well stay with what we like! :)

I'm still a kid when it comes to food. I like combinations that wouldn't appeal to lots of adults. I've converted a few people with the choco syrup over cereal. They saw eeeewww at first then after they try it, they don't go back! :)

I'm not surprised to hear that your recipes are better than the processed stuff. I'm learning the hard way to read nutrition info. I bought peanut butter that was marked natural without reading til I got home and compared it to regular Wegman's brand. Its the EXACT same thing. I'm eating tablespoons anyway.

I've been fooled before with the low carb labels, believe me. It's crazy how some things are marketed. A lot of them are loaded with carbs and all sorts of stuff (fats, sugar, calories) and costs more! Ugh. :upsidedow Just have to pick through it all.

I think it's funny there have been over 100 hits on this thread and it's just us two.

I'm telling you, its me, I'm a thread ender.

I can't wait for this week to be over so I can eat fruit.

I'm trying to learn more about better nutrition and exactly what the labels mean. I'm lying to myself that I'm NOT dieting and learning to eat better.

I don't know what it is, but it isn't you! Anyway, it sounds like we have a similar approach to this "dieting" thing. I read a blurb somewhere about a diet that you can't eat anything "white". That's kind of S.B.. No sugar, bread, potatoes, etc.. But whole grains is ok and sweet potatoes (in moderation). A big hurdle for me is, trying to stick to portion control. I didn't realize how much eat when it comes to favorites! :upsidedow

Hello. ALMOST DONE WITH PHASE 1!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to eat fruit. Have you ever been to a Tastefully Simple demonstration? Its a food demo. I won't go into an explanation unless you don't know what it is, but I'm going to one tomorrow night. I'm trying to figure out how to handle it.
Are you doing the Biggest Loser competition starting tomorrow? I am. It sucks though because if it started last week I could have had a giant 8 lb loss for the first week, heehee.

I know you are glad you are almost out of Phase 1!

I haven't been to a, Tastefully Simple demonstration. Sounds interesting. Do they have all kinds of food to sample? If they had desserts it would be big trouble for me. Good luck with that tomorrow night. I know it's going to be a challenge. It would be for me too.

I'm not going to join the biggest loser. I'm just getting minimal results and I'm ok with it as long as I keep it that way. Inching towards the goal. Let me know how that goes. I may want to step it up before long. :)

Hey. The demo was fine, I didn't really eat much of anything bad. I don't know how I did it but I finally got myself into a diet zone and am sticking to it. I'm eating fruit and am HAPPY. The no fruit thing I think is ridiculous. I understand it, but if I'm not eating chocolate I should be allowed to eat grapes!
Tastefully simple is primarily dips and different dressings. Its all processed pre-packaged stuff that I don't really get into; I like to cook so I'd rather "make my own". The desserts are limited and thankfully were NOT good. I did eat a bite sized piece of choc pound cake but didn't want any more as it just wasn't worth it:)

Hey. Glad the demo went well.

I know what you mean about fruit. It's hard not to have the fruit and anything else sweet. I understand it too, but it really is a double whammy.

I'm still kind of in phase 3. I've gotten a little more liberal than I probably should be with the things I eat. I do watch the portion sizes and I especially limit carbs. I stopped recording what I eat for the last few days. I think it's made a difference in what I'm eating. Not a lot. I have had some low sugar desserts now and then. If I eat a small meal I'll have bread at the next meal. Kind of a trade off thing. I'm staying status quo right now and it's okay.

I need to incorporate exercise. Overall, I think I'm eating okay.

I love hearing what you do as I am so new to SB. Overall how long have you been doing this? Its starting to get easier for me now since I'm into Phase 2. I'm not being totally strict though but I'm still losing so I'm very very happy. For my height I need to lose at least 40 lbs. Right now I'm in that diet "zone" and doing well.
I hear you about exercise. I HATE to exercise but I know I'll hit your point where I have to do something. I'm so lazy :)
