I am not on Atkins or South Beach, but I am on day 5 of watching what I eat and keeping the carbs down. (Tonight was the 3rd night we had fish!) i was just wondering how many carbs you are supposed to be eating?? What would be a good range? I would like to lose 50 - 60 lbs.

Thanks for any help!

Jill

I am on South Beach Diet and we don't really count carbs
but I am counting on my own
I tried to be between 10-15 carbs a day for first two weeks induction
now in phase two I try to eat around 20-25 carbs per day
I have a gang of weight to lose too and really like to see more than 1 lb per week
I do vary the carbs though to keep the system fooled I may have 1 or 2 days under 20 carbs & 1 day around 30 carbs most days around 20 carbs
You kinda of have to listen to your own body and figure out how many you can eat and lose I think

I'm watching my carbs too. Staying between 15 and 40 seems to be working for me. I know it's a big range, but I'm content with a slow weight loss.

After you've done a couple of weeks at the low end (20), experiement. Some people can eat 40-60 carbs and still loose!

Just to keep it in perspective, I've read the 'average' American eats 300+ carbs a day!

I'm on the Protein Power Plan which I highly suggest you should read the book to see if this plan will work for you. For the first 4 to 6 weeks you are suppose to stay at under 30 carbs per day. You can get your carbs from any source but no exceed the 30 a day.

After this period you need to relook at your goals - do you still have a lot of weight to lose - then stay on the 30 carbs per day. If you are close to goal you should increase your carbs to 55 carbs per day. Now if you see a gain at 55 carbs you should lower it back down to 30 and increase your carbs by 5 every week until you see a gain. Now you know how many carbs you cannot exceed a day in order to continue seeing weight loss.

I'm lucky I can eat under 55 carbs a day and still lose weight but I know other low carbers that need to keep their carbs a lot lower then that. It is all about your body and what you feel comfortable with. I range daily between 30 to 45 carbs - I actually have to plan to have days with 55 carbs in them. That might change now since I want to start adding a glass of 2% milk each day but for now I am still low carbing and losing.

Hi, Jill! :wave2:

I've cut carbs drastically from what I used to eat. I don't count them. I'm trying to eat sensibly...like a normal person! LOL! I have oatmeal for breakfast, two slices of bread at lunch, possibly a weight watchers dinner or if we go out I might have one or two breadsticks with dinner...a salad. Then maybe once or twice a week I'll have a few goldfish or cheeze-its at night. But I am a big salad eater! :teeth: So far, so good. I've dropped 42 pounds since October 28. Good luck!!

I too dont actually count, but, I would guess I consume about 20-30 a day! Almost everything I eat either has 1 gram or less than 1 g of carbs with the exception of my atkins bread I have two of those every morning 6 net carbs each. I dont mind eating that cause its in the morning! But, that is my only bread comsumption. Good luck.
