I'm back to the boards after a year long absence-----and I am 30 lbs thinner thanks to the Atkins diet. (and my cholesterol and triglycerides are down a TON!!!) ;)

My DH has lost 40 lbs -- and he won't cheat a bit---- kinda makes me feel guilty-----but I am not sure I can make it through Thanksgiving without my mashed potatoes and gravy!

How about the rest of you-----are you going to eat the carbs today??

My husband and I haven't had white flour, sugar or any other refined carbohydrate since 1/9/03 and we don't plan to ever eat them again. My husband has finally gotten his diabetes under control and his lipids under control and he doesn't want to feel bad ever again so we won't be eating refined carbohydrates today.

Good luck to you. You should visit us on WISH, there are lots of successful low carbers there.

Congratulations on that loss! Although contraversial, it definitely works (lost 135 all together!). I found it difficult sometimes, and went off, but more healthy, if that makes any sense. At those times I stayed the same, but then went on again, so overall it took about 1.5 years. I mainly stick to it, but have some things here and there. My big caution, I got wicked bad migrains when I had any carbs, after being strict on the program. Not to mention wanting to fall asleep no matter what! So if it will make you happy go ahead! Just be cautious of the "after effect"

Have a great day!

I have only been doing Atkin's for about 5or 6 weeks. Today I will eat stuffing and mashed potatoes in moderation.Tho I have made the Atkin's orange cranberry muffins and turnip with cream cheese (faux tatoes). We are eating at about 4pm at my mom's house. I know eating later will be helpful for me. I also don't have to bring home sweets and the like. We'll see what actually happens at the dinner table.....good or bad. Whatever happens I will be right back on it in the morning.

I'm planning on half of a baked yam with a little butter, splenda, and cinnamon. I bought some lo-carb rolls that actually taste good at a local bakery, will have one of those. Maybe a tablespoon of cranberries. Dessert will be berries with whipped cream, family will eat pumpkin pie. More carbs than other days, but it's not too bad. We're cruising on 12/19, I've got to be good! Diana

Well, Kellie, again, it is great to see you. Please stop by more often, just a bit more often, LOL. Don't get 'lost'. And you too, Jan, good to see you. And Pogo, looks like we will be at WDW at the same time, hope to see you. :wave2:

I have been doing low carb for 4 months now, down 35 pounds, and like you, Kellie, my readings are improved. Tri G's WAY down, cholesterol about the same, but HDL up, and that is good.

Good to hear you and David are doing so well. I plan on sticking to the 'rules', I have not wavered since I started. The big test will be the coming days at WDW. But I plan on sticking to it there as well, since it must be a lifestyle change, not a diet.

Take care, enjoy the day. And again, super seeing you guys!!!! :bounce:

Dan, it's easy to stay on Atkins at WDW. I've had two trips since January and stayed 100% on plan both times :)

Dh has been on Atkins for almost 6 months.

He says only a couple of spoon sof gravy today, other than that on plan.
We'll see how the cheesecake I made is (low carb) :)

If it's Beachgirl's recipe, your dh is going to love it, Nancy

having mashed yams with cinnamon and plenty of butter. I find them sweet enough so I'll forego the Splenda. Green beans and broccoli and cheese cassrole as well as turkey.

I stayed on plan last night at the family dinner and I will stay on plan today too. :)

We're having ham, turkey, low carb green bean casserole, deviled eggs, Atkins cornbread muffins and last night I made Beachgirl's cheesecake for the very first time. It came out perfect. I used caramel Davinvi syrup and put some crushed RS sugar free toffee on top. I can't wait to try it. :)

I'm also making mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, rolls and pumpkin pie for the non-low carbers in the family, but I won't be having any of those.

I'm sure I'll have more carbs and calories than normal , but it will all be "legal" goodies. :)

DS wants just turkey and mashed potatoes. Ummmmmmmmm...I'm not making the potatoes, so he'll have to do with turkey and who knows what! LOL! I'll make a salad to go with it, a couple slices of bread. That's about it. I don't want to blow anything on a day. I'd like to drop one more size before Christmas!! Already down 2 sizes. ;) :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :hyper:

DH is heavy-duty Atkins right now and I do it at home to help him. We found some great low-carb recipes online for our favorite sides, so we're doing those. It won't be as low as a normal day, but way below the usual TG dinner. We're skipping the potatoes and stuffing, but will have turkey, green bean casserole, fresh cranberries (found a recipe online that uses splenda and sugar free jam with them) and low-carb pumpkin pie (recipe found on Atkins.com). The only "cheat" is we did get rolls. DH just can't live without those!

I did well. Turkey, green bean casserole, salad, diet soda, water, and a Carbolite chocolate bar. And an Atkins ice cream bar when I got home. :)

I stuck to turkey, a touch of 99% fat-free gravy (yuck!!), and salad. :) :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I did have to eat a veerrrry small portion of mashed potatoes (my first in 4 months.....and my favorite food!) but that was it. I passed on cranberries and pumpkin pie. I drank Diet Cheerwine and had a carb solution chocolate bar after dinner as I watched all the football games. :)

I think I did well. I did haveturnip, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and of course dark meat turkey. Oh, and some peanuts. But all in all I felt successful. I had the Atkin's orange cranberry muffin for dessert. I went into the day knwing full wel thatl I would more than likely have these things, but I ate smaller portions than last yearand ate until I was satisfied not "full" or "stuffed. I took home pumpkin pie and brownies for the girls and haven't even lifted the covers to smell them let alone taste them. And I got right back on it today.
I want to lose weight more quickly than I am, but at least the scale is moving the last 2 weeks. It was so frustrating when I got started.I would like to lose about 15 lbs.
Now someone has to reply with this 'beachgirls cheesecake', boy wouldn't I love that. and the websites other than the Atkin's site, as I have that one.
Thanks,
Jan
Things have kept me so busy lately that I am just too tired in the evening to do anything on the computer other than check my e-mail. so i don't really know what's going on here. Good to see others doing Atkin or/ low carb changes. I'll be looking for your posts.

Have been following the Atkins nutritional approach since Jan.4/03. I've not "cheated" once and didn't do so on Thanksgiving! I've been on a cruise, to Hawaii, and visit WDW on a weekly basis and manage quite nicely to stay within the parameters of the plan. :)

I focus on what I can have, not on what I can't. The T-day traditional offerings, if unable to be converted to low carb (like mashed potatoes) simply weren't a part of my "new traditions!"

I've never felt so healthy, nor been so healthy "lab wise" in my life. That makes eliminating refined carbage from my diet all that much easier! :)

Good luck to all of you. :)
