Ok, so I apologize that I have subjected many of my friends to my hysterical excitement over playing VMK on a PC versus a Mac, but I can't get over how much BETTER it is! It makes me sad because I love Macs, grew up on them, think in many ways they are far better than PCs (especially in terms of security and viruses!) but seriously, you cannot run games on them for anything -- IF you can at all, as most games are PC compatible only.

Yesterday, I finally rigged up my old PC (it's about 2-3 years old) with the Internet and despite the fact that the Mac I ran VMK on was less than a year old, playing on the PC is so much ridiculously faster/smoother/honestly, I've run out of adjectives to say how great it is. And this ISN'T a new computer either.

I just very casually played fireworks (my worst VMK game) and got 70,000 on my first try before being sent back to the lobby at the end of level 2!! Still not enough for that first quest car and yes, I know, absolutely pathetic to most people, but my best on a Mac was 49,000 at the end of level 2, no joke --- and it was excruciating to get that, let me tell you. It wasn't just that I stunk lol, but also because the processor was taking so long to load everything, I'd miss at least 3 fireworks while it was registering that I hit one. Now I can actually see every firework as it comes up! Amazing! I was pretty hopeless about ever getting any of the car quests done, but now I'm so excited to practice! w00t w00t!!!

I know most of you are PC users, but for those who share my Mac pain --- if you have a PC, even if it's old, hook it up if you can! I know some people have played VMK great on a Mac --- and probably your Mac is more geared for games (I was running on a Mac Mini, which technically shouldn't have been able to run VMK AT ALL) anyways... can't wait to play with you all without the 10 minute load times, extra frequent dc's, and other general VMK Mac/Apple badness.

No, no, no, say it ain't so!!! Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

Sure, that's one solution. But, there's a more elegant, cooler solution, if you can afford it. One that I hope to be able to use in a few months:

Get one of the new Intel-based Mac's, load Apple's Boot Camp beta on it, install Windows XP in a 2nd partition, and you've got... a dual-boot OS X / Windows XP machine, that runs Windows games fine

And the initial reports are that they are as fast as dedicated Wintel boxes.

And this is just the Beta... Supposedly, Apple will integrate it into OS X 10.5, perhaps with actual virtualization, so you can run both OS X and Windows XP simultaneously, without the need to reboot...

You don't have to wait. There is a company that has software that will already let you run Windows or Linux on your Core Duo Mac.

Parallels Workstation

The Core Duo Mac Mini is $799, if you already have a monitor and USB keyboard and mouse you can have the best OS and run Windows too. ;)

I can't wait for the Intel based desktops that will use the new Intel chips with virtualization support built into the chip.

in my opinion the best thing that apple made is a stick of memory with a screen on it! know as an ipod! that's it! and i hate ipods! waste of money

My first love is and will always be Macs, but they just haven't been able to compete when it comes to games! And I love my computer games! For the past two weeks, and I don't know if it's VMK upgrading or my Mac finally realized that it shouldn't be able to run VMK or what, but I haven't been able to play a single Mansion game through without disconnecting, much less practice being stinky on fireworks. lol... and I adore Mansion; it's where I met most of my friends! But now I couldn't play it! I was almost ready to quit if it weren't for the fact that I like chatting with friends and closings as much as playing the games. So to the dark side I must turn... :p

I am, however, really excited about the new Intel Macs though! Can't wait to get one of those! :)

I'm a little obsessed, lol.

Me too, i love mac and grew up on them...my dad got one of the first ones back in the 80's. I really don't care for pc, can't understand them, never will. The only games i play on computer is vmk and the sims, every thing else is either game boy, ps2, psp, and sega(very old game system still awesome). Vmk runs great on the fastest mac (oh we have more than one[imac, cube, 2 powerbooks, ibook, and hopefully a new black macbook<3]) in the house, except fireworks. It use to run fine on my dad's imac when vmk had like 1000 people in it and not so many items or magic. The only reason, i get scores like 270 grand is because of an awful, stinky, slow as can be pc! It seriously bothers me! Oh and i love how for some reason the pc went to sleep on me on the best game of my life...(the plug was in, there was not a power outage, nothing) i was about to throw it... :badpc:

ok calming down...

in the end, My Mac is my life :cloud9: , i never had a problem with it, no viruses, never had to reboot it (except for system downloads), never had the blue screen of death, nothing...I'll never go over to PC's, NEVER!

oh boom, love how your listening to disney music....

Just be certain that you know that with the new Macbook, the video performance will suffer a bit, especially if you don't upgrade the RAM.

Unlike the Macbook Pro's, there's no dedicated video RAM, so the video will share the system RAM.

(Also, know that you'll be paying a $150 premium for the slick matte black Macbook...)

But it is a sweet machine... I'm getting real close to springing for a 15" Macbook Pro, though...

I don't care..it too awesome! It would be for college not vmk silly(ok maybe some vmk ;) )

i just relized i forgot a mac... the mac mini, it is hook up to the tv. Makes six.. we are a mac based family.

Our family is a Mac/Windows... We focus on windows but the Intel chips in Macs are just too awesome. We currently have an Inspiron 5150 (mine), Apple G4 Powerbook (mine), and an Avertec (dad's). My brother borrows the Apple. I enjoy having the presence of 3,000+ songs on the Apple :D

My dad said that some computers arn't meant to play games. Especially if they are expensive. Though, I think that he's lying to me.

Oh my goodness! That is one of the best smells in the world. I made sure to open my new iBook G4 very slowly, so I could take in the smell longer!
