I am sitting on pins and needles right now! My DH, his father, and brother are all running the marathon right now!

I signed up for the tracker feature, and have been getting texts every 5 miles. All 3 of them are still running and still together! DH had been struggling with a VERY painful knee the last 2 weeks before this, and we were worried he might not even make it 5 miles. As of 8:30, they had finished the 1/2 marathon!

I'm so proud of all of them! They aren't 'serious' runners, but trained hard for this. Just wanted to share!

Here is a picture of them before the race last year (it was FREEZING!!!)

And here is a picture of the graphic on the shirt they will wear around the parks today, when they finish this marathon!!

Don't keep us in suspense. How did they do???? ;)

That's really great!! I'm glad they finished together.:goodvibes
Is Matt's father a disney fan like he is?
Take care, Sandy

How exciting! Be sure to check out the DIS Unplugged blog. Dave Parfitt got some great pics of the race!

Thanks everyone! They DID survive, and they all crossed the finish line together. Time was 5 hours and 18 minutes. I'm so proud!

Here they are with their medals, matching shirts, and excitement about Voices of Liberty to celebrate. (Although they did choose to sit on a bench, not the floor!) ;)

Matt brought his dad to Disney for the first time last year for the marathon. All it took was a ride on Soarin' and dinner at O'Hana to get that man HOOKED!

We now have a trip planned this June with our family, Matt's parents, and Ben's wife and daughter! We will be staying in a 2BR villa at BWV. We can't wait to get everyone hooked! :goodvibes

Not sure if they will become as obsessed as we are, but they might 'get' us a bit more!

Oh, and now thanks to that storm down south, Matt is stuck there another day. I know... poor him, right?

The funny thing is, there is no snow in Indy OR Orlando, yet he can't get from there to here! Darn airline connections! :sad2:

Wow, that great big family trip sounds like so much fun!! I hope Matt gets home soon. The snowstorm is really wreaking havoc in the south. We are getting the snow in NY on Wednesday. I think my son will finally get his snow day! Take Care, Sandy

Pretty awesome stuff Sooze! Thanks for sharing. :)

Yay for Marathon runners! My DH and his buddies ran the 1/2 last year and later that day, as they wore their medals and drank their way around World Showcase, I was surprised by all the "Congrats!", "Good Jobs!" and "Way to Go's!" that they got from total strangers. What a nice day!!!

What a great accomplishment! And a nice way to convert someone!

Me....I will only run if chased. And even then, I'd probably be easy to catch.

Oh, and glad the text notifications worked for you. Mine didn't work at all last year. I got one about DH when he got to 5 miles and none for the rest of the run. His 10 mile notification came AFTER his finish notification! I got really worried about him there for awhile!

Hey, I saw them! I was walking back from Epcot to the Boardwalk and I noticed these 3 guys with their marathon bling and Yankees Disney shirts (I notice these things since I'm from the Bronx). Congrats! They weren't wobbling as much as I was (I finished 5:11).

Ah... snow days... I haven't had one of those in a while. Indy just keeps getting 2 inches here, 4 inches there... never enough for cancellations of anything!

Pretty awesome stuff Sooze! Thanks for sharing. :)
You are welcome, Aaron! Take care!

I went with DH the first time he ran and I agree... everyone is so kind to the runners. My favorite is gasping at those INSANE people who do the Goofy challenge!! :worship:

Ya gotta do it some way, right?

I am WITH you! Give me a good Jazzercise class.... running is too boring for me! :rotfl:

I signed up for both email and text alerts. The texts worked.. the emails? I am STILL getting them randomly, two days later! Crazy!

That is crazy!! Congrats to you, too! Glad you enjoyed their shirts, which are funny since they live in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and Evansville, IN! (But they are Yankee fans to the core!)

Was right behind them at epcot turnstiles! Had a nice little chat.

That is awesome!! I'll have to ask them about it! :goodvibes
