Loved DxDP except for one thing....

Lat October, we (DH, DS 10, me) used DxDP and loved it. As we plan another trip for this year, we decided we'd definitely go that route again.

However, it did cause me to remember one odd thing about it that kept happening to us:

Our DS was 10 on that trip, so it was his first time being an 'adult' at WDW. We have mixed feelings about age 10 being the adult age at WDW, but that's a story for another board!

What kept happening to us is that many CMs would cluck and comment on how much food DS was 'wasting,' and they often seemed surprised/disappointed that he was ordering off the adult menu (I don't know how many places tried giving him a kids' menu and we'd politely say -- "nope, he's a 10-year-old-adult!" -- that is, paid for as an adult -- or "unfortunately our 'kid' menu days are over").

DS is an adventurous, solid eater -- as much as someone who weighs under 70 lbs can be. The food left behind wasn't as a result of his not liking his meal nor of us ordering 'foolishly' for him (like somehow forcing or encouraging him to order something expensive just to get 'value' out of the plan -- no, if he wanted filet mignon or salmon or arctic char, THAT'S what he wanted to eat). He'd regularly pass on dessert (and we'd hear about how he was wasting that benefit).

Of course none of this would make us pass on the plan, but has anyone else had similar experiences? It was like being made to feel guilty for following the rules or for not encouraging our son to over eat!

You could have ordered him a kids' meal, at most places that would not have been against the rules. However, he'd be paying for it with an adult credit, which would compromise the value of your dining plan.

no, we did not have this issue, but my kids are also solid eaters and w/a little brother grazing off their plates (under 3) there was typically not much left...

the only place we met some "resistance" (for lack of a better term) was at yak & yeti, dd ordered something that looked like something she'd like based on the description, but in reality a) she did not care for it *at all* and b) it contained peanuts and ds is highly allergic and we told our server, "no nuts at our table" and when asked to take it away untouched, our server "tsk'd" at us... and even "tsk tsk'd" more when we asked for a replacement appetizer... although, surprisingly (based on his reaction) he did not charge us for it!

We didn't have any issues, but DS was 9 at check-in and still on the child's plan despite having an adult appetite so he ate a lot of what might otherwise have been left on my or DH's plate. He'll be on the adult plan for the first time in May, so we'll see how that goes. He's really looking forward to it!

We also didn't have the issue some have reported with servers pushing you to order all 3 courses whether you want them or not. We skipped or shared desserts at quite a few meals and never had a server press us to order once we declined.
