DH and I stayed at AKL 12/1-12/5/11. I had planned on posting a review earlier, but with the holidays, I haven't gotten around to it until now.
We had never stayed at AKL, and actually upgraded from CBR at kind of the last minute to avoid the Pop Warner crowds. I am so glad we did! DH and I will always stay at AKL from now on for our "no kids" trips.
The whole resort is very cultural, and has a warm, relaxing, comfortable feel to it. The detail is amazing! I spent alot of time just walking around the resort, looking at animals, and absorbing the scenery and decor. I listened to an African story-teller by the fire pit one night, and we used the night vision goggles to look at animals in the savannah a couple of evenings.
We just had a standard view room (overlooked the parking lot), but we were not in our room much during the day, and there are so many places to view the Savannahs, that it really wasn't an issue. We had a room with a king bed (requested ahead of time). There was a couch in the room also, which was nice for sitting on and relaxing in the evenings.
We did not use the pool or hot-tubs, but lots of other people looked like they were enjoying them. There were movies shown by the pool every night.
We had eaten at Boma on a previous trip and enjoyed it. There were other WDW restaurants that we wanted to use our DP credits for on this trip, so we did not eat at either of the sit-down restaurants at AKL this trip. We did eat at the Mara a couple of times. DH had the African stew, and I had the vegetarian flatbread...both very good. DH had a big breakfast platter one morning, which would have been plenty for both of us! There was a slection of African wines sold by the bottle at the Mara, and in the gift shop. We bought a couple of these to drink in our room after a day of park-hopping.
The bus service was great! 10 minutes was the longest we waited for a bus.
I would highly recommend AKL to everyone!

So happy to read this we are going with no kids in two weeks and are going to try AKL too !! WE did pay the upgrade for the view but it is our anniversary so we splurged a little !! I am happy to hear you liked AKL I ususally stay at All Star Music for the suites when we go as a family but last trip for DD sweet 16 we were at Beach Club and LOVED IT
but it was booked when we went to book our trip so AKL was our next choice !! Cant wait to go !!
). DD and I had a pool view which is not much more than standard and very nice if you don't want to splurge on Savanna view. I could sort of tell how swimmable the pool was by looking out and seeing how many people were in it
. And its a very pretty view.
