Lovebug repellents???

They come out at mating season and are usally "in the act" when you see them with a male and female connect together:rotfl: . I hate to admit it but wifey made us swap our trip from Sept/Oct 08 to May 3-9 2008 just to avoid the little buggers. Wait a minute, thats next week, shoot I gotta go pack- see ya when I get back gang!!

When we were little we called them tickle bugs, because that's what they do when they land on you. Most children will not be scared of them if you take this approach.

There is no repellant. However, there are some attractants, so you want to avoid: the color white, also bright yellow, pink, orange or lavender; parking lots; bus stops; vehicle exhaust of any kind, as they LOVE exhaust fumes.

They peak at around 10 am and do not come out at night, so do your swimming after dark if you are there during a "flight".

If you will be driving your own car in Florida during a love bug flight, screen your radiator and coat your car with unbuffed paste wax to protect the finish. If the car is not coated with heavy wax, then splatted love bugs should be washed off within 48 hours, lest the enzymes in their remains damage the paint.

NO!, NO!, NO! I'll be down there starting this weekend May 3rd-10th and have just finished ironing and packing my clothes. Due to the heat down there, I have packed all light colors. Yeah, that includes yellow shorts, yellow capris, pink shorts, pink capris, light purple capris, and alot of predominately (or solid) white tshirts and tank tops, along with kacki capris and shorts. Does that mean that I'm going to be a love bug magnet:scared1: ?

Put it this way; I would make it a point to stay away from bus stops and busses if I were you, and don't stand around fiddling with stuff in the trunk of your car while the engine's running.

Seriously, I wouldn't say magnet, but they will probably light on you pretty frequently, as they do like white better than any other color. (Next after white are flower colors, thus the pastels.) The only thing they like better than white in general is white that smells like engine exhaust, which is why WDW bus stops are pretty darn close to nirvana from the Love Bug POV.

When is "love bug season". (crossing fingers it is not in September)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news.... but I'm 2 hrs north of Orlando and just saw a few this weekend! We'll be there next week, too, for the 3rd time that week, and I can't recall ever seeing them there before during the first week in May. But now that I live in FL, I can tell you that they don't really bother me (and I HATE bugs!!!!). Hopefully they won't be bad for our trips! :thumbsup2

I hate to be the bearer of any bad news, but lovebugs are out in September and MAY.

In 06, we saw a few in the first 2 weeks of May. I think September tends to be heavier with them.

Lovebugs are actually one of the few types of bugs that I'm not afraid of.:rotfl: They're very attracted to either exhaust fumes or gasoline fumes - I guess that's why they like our cars so much!
