Love or Hate relationship with your name

I was born a Sandra, which I never cared for as a kid, but I like now. I never use that name; I've been called Sandy as long as I can remember.

I like my name, but I can remember when I was in my early 20's and dating - my good friend Dave Beach and I always joked that we couldn't get married because I'd be "Sandy Beach". I had another friend with the last name Claus - the name "Sandy Claus" would also be a bit much!

I don't care too much for my last name but the first and middle names are fine.

As an aspiring writer, I have come up with all kinds of combinations to use for various genres when I become published.

I didn't like my name growing up. I went so far as to ask my dad to call me Chrissy... after three's company! :)

Now I am impartial to it. I guess I like it, but there is no reason to my name. That bothers me. My parents named my brother after our family but my name just came out of nowhere! I want my kids to have names that mean something to us.. regardless of how minor!

By the way.. my name is christina... never Chris, Tina, Christi just Christina. People that aren't my friends, but think they are (you know those people) call me Chris.

I like my name I guess. The only problem is that when I say Hi I'm Norah everyone thinks I have said Laura and I HATE correcting them.

And when people call me Norah Jones It really really irks me.

And when people spell it Nora...It has an H get it right!

Well I hated the name I was born with mainly because noone could pronounce it right (Amalie- pronounced am-a-lee NOT am-el-ya) and well I used to hit people who mispronounced it- Well after afew run-ins with teachers one invited me to start writing emily instead (basically same pronounciation just idiot proof) and so I adopted it and then legally changed it about 5 years ago. Course I now live in the land of emily with it seems oh every 4th person is named emily so it gets old... Hence Ive gotten used to being called em and usually prefer it if there is multiple emilys. (at work there is atleast 10 of us I know of)

but if its em its -em (long desire to have a hyphen in the name) and if ya use emily the "way" is -emily °o° (another way I used that became habit to distinguish myself in the land of emilys

-em

Dopey and Grumpy-I like you're name also-my complaint is that it isn't MY name-but they call me all of those anyway-I've even gone so far as to pull out my driver's license..and it says Sue- lol-I swear they don't believe me.

Thanks Sue....I can understand your frustration. Most short names, like Sue and Kathy, are nicknames so people tend to say "And what's your full name?" When people find out what my name is, they always ask me what I like to be called. Sue, Susan, Suzanne??? It doesn't matter to me but I've got a bigger variety to choose from than you do.

I like my name. It doesn't seem to be used as much these days. It was a little more common when I was younger.

I like my name - not so common that I was one of 10 with the same name in school growing up, but not so different as to be odd. And nothing that I have to explain to people how to spell or pronounce - although I do occasionally get people calling me "Sharon" instead of "Shannon."

I like my name....it fits me...but I didn't like it when I was a teenager and almost every other girl in class was also Kristy, or Christy, or Christie, or Kristi...you get the point.
Now I only get aggravated when I answer the phone and people automatically assume I'm saying Kristina or Christine instead of Kristy.

I have never liked my name- Mona. It is not very common and again growing up I hardly ever found anything with my name on it. No other kids in school with the same name either. I grew up in the south with the middle name Jean. Needless to say I dropped Jean when I got married and use my maiden name as a middle name. Now my married name does not go well with my first name and I have to spell both all the time-I still get letters and faxes with both spelled all kind of ways. My Mom like the song Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole so I got stuck with it.

I always said I would give my child a common name and I did- Catherine :)

I just love my name. It's common enough that it doesn't raise eyebrows, it's uncommon enough that I rarely meet anyone else who shares it, it's easy to pronounce, it's feminine-sounding, and it has a nice rhythm with my last name. I would recommend naming a daughter "Dana" in a second.

When I was growing up people assumed my name was Laura instead of Laurie. But besides that it was fine. Someone once told me it suits me, whatever that means.

My name is okay...kinda boring I think. I never had problems with others having my name while I was in growing up and in school but once I hit the work force I always worked in an office with another Susan. Until I got this job...I've been the only Susan here and I've been here 3 1/2 years. :)

I think it's kinda old fashioned...I'm the youngest Susan I've ever known. Definately not a name one would normally name their child today imo.

I love my name! It's uniquely spelled - Kathryn - and very, very interchangable. I've gone by Katie, Kate, Katelyn (that's what my daddy calls me) and Kater. I plan on giving my daughter a name that has a variety of nicknames.

I like my name...some childhood ribbing happened, but that happens to lots of kids (plus I liked the attention).

I never liked my name until my good friend(who's name is by the way...Ward and everyone laughes at him  ) told me that it does not matter what your name is for it is only a title by which you are addressed, if you are confident in yourself, it shouldn't matter if your name was tom, or wade ;)

i now no longer wish my name was Zsa Zsa, but am happy with Caroline :D

I am not a big fan of my name. I like long names that can be made short and still be a name. Like if my name was Elizabeth and I was called Lisa that might be better. Then my middle name...well with my first name, its 2 choices, Ann or Marie. I am Ann. What I have always had the WORST time with is my last name. Then once I got married...well lets just say it was a lateral move;)

I don't care for mine - most of the time people think they heard "Chris" instead of "Trish" - or they can't figure it out and I have to spell it for them over the phone - whatever. I don't like it. I tried to give my girls names that were clear, straight forward, and couldn't be made fun of.

Trish the fish on a dish made a wish.
Trish-ka-bob
Trish-trash
 anyway...

katerkat, my daughter's middle name is Kathryn. I knew a girl in highschool with that name and always loved it.

dvcfamily, Lisa, her first name is Elizabeth, so she is Elizabeth Kathryn, you could use Kathryn with Lisa and I think it would sound all right too, depending on your last name.

I think that it was just easier to use Anne or Marie or my middle name of Lynn than it was for our mothers to think of something more original :p
