On our trip to DL earlier this month we took the raft over to Tom Sawyer's Island. We are very familiar with WDW's version of this island and I must say that DL's version is so much better. There are more pathways to walk and so much more to see at DL. I saw some obvious Pirates additions but they were mostly fairly well integrated into the overall theme.

I remember Tom Sawyer's Island being one of my favorite places when I was little. (That and Adventures Thru Inner Space ;) ) I didn't realize it was different in WDW. Nice pictures! Don't know if you noticed the blacksmith shack belongs to Will Turner. His name is there if you look closely.

I have been to Disneyland 5 times over the last 31 years. I have yet been to Tom Sawyers Island. It has been one of the things that I dont want too miss this time.

I like going there during the mid afternoon time when the big rides are busiest. Its always less crowded and DD can run around and have some fun.

Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyers Island is often overlooked.

My two tips.

1. Great place to let the kids run around and have fun, but it may be hard to get them to leave.

2. On very busy days the rafts over and island can be very busy too, but are a great place to be in the afternoon when you would otherwise be looking at 45-60 minutes waits for other attractions when attendance is peaking.

It really is too bad that people overlook it. DD (6) absolutely loved it and would've stayed all day if we'd let her, playing with the other kids.

Also if you want pictures of the Columbia or the paddlewheeler, the island is a great spot to take them.

Our favorite was watching DD climb around in the bone cage. Will be spending more time there next time we go.

Great pics too. Love the skeleton hanging onto the treasure chest. :thumbsup2

On all our trips I've never been either *hangs head*

We've made it a point this time to do it. DS and DD will love it, I think
