Love BWV and BCV but hate the 2042 expiration....

I look at DVC as a stepping stone in the walkway of life. Use the membership as long as it saves you money and you love Disney, get out when it doesn't.

Buy where you love to stay now. I say "now" because in a few years you may love somewhere else. You can sell your existing contract and buy at your new love.

Who knows what will happen in the future. You could have a life change, Your family or you get tired of Disney. Disney is sold to a company who really screws up the DVC. The Federal Government imposes a 100% timeshare tax doubling your dues.

Anything is possible, buy where you love to stay.

What is the going rate for the BCV or BWV's? I think the salesman told me $100 a point though Disney.I just checked out the AKV and BLT today. DH likes being near water but I am not sure I like the Contemporary area. We went and looked at the pool area of the Contemporary and saw the BLT under construction but it looked very stark there.

If you like being near water, BWV Board Walk View and SSR Congress Park have the best water views.

We considered expiration dates when buying and chose BWV because we liked it better.
We did not let dates influence our decision because of 2 things:

Who knows the shape of DVC villas is 34-48 years. Some will say villas are worn now--what will they be like in 20 or 30 or 40 years? Will technology have changed so much they are obsolete and undesirable?

Will I get tired of going there or have found a new favorite vacation spot?

I really like the theme, location, and atmosphere at BWV. I want to not have to stress over getting reservations there. By owning there we can stay in the standard rooms for less points--something we would have a hard time booking if not at the 8-11 month window advantage of having that as our home resort.

I agree with posters who say to buy where you enjoy now and not worry so long term.

For now, I just want to get past the year 2012.......

With the current pace of the increases, just think about how much maintenance fees will be in 2042! Our kids might be celebrating the expiration date!

It's hard to imagine they won't offer some type of extension program later but it might be combined with buying more points.

I agree..I feel they will do that too like they did with OKW.

Sure we prefer this one to that for whatever reasons...but it is not deal breaker for planning a trip. As long as there is a villa available somewhere....we will take whatever.

I think a lot of us stay at other resorts than our home resort. We love SSR and have stayed there 3 times in the less than two years since we owned but we have also stayed at BCV (last summer) and LOVED LOVED IT. So we were able to book another week in July at the 7 month window. We feel that DVC will be forever changing so we are NOT locked into just staying at our home resort of SSR and AKV. That is the beauty of the system. IF we only had to stay at SSR or AKV for the next 40 or 50 years.....that is okay too. BUT....DVC is so much more than just staying at your home resort that we bought into. At least for us it is.

We just came back from WDW. We turned in out paperwork to NOT extend OKW. Somehow DVC lost our paperwork in their internal mail. So MS called us and asked us to stop by SSR while we were there at Cmas week to redo our paperwork.

No sweat since I wanted to see the models for BLT and AKL. As we were signing our OKW paperwork again with a DVC employee, I asked if BWV will be offered the same extention. She said because of the overwelming responses of OKW members extending their life, BWV and the others will be extended as well. BUT, as there as always a BUT, the way DVC handled the OKW exentions, DVC will come up with a better plan and work out "life extention" problems that did arise for OKW that it will be awhile before BWV will be give their exentions. I asked if it will be like later this summer or earlier but she just whispered that it would be more likely later.

So buy where you want to stay at the most. Eventually the life will be extended as well. If it never does get extended, then just enjoy.

When we bought in 2005 they were selling SSR. However, I wasn't aware that Disney could sell the sold out resorts at that point and was really on the fence about purchasing SSR. Then my guide said that the BW was available! OMGosh!!!! The BW.

Okay, now the boardwalk was going to expire 12 years prior and the BW was more money!!! Now, I'm very frugal!!! So SSR was the better deal, but my heart wasn't into it. But the mere mention of buying points at the BW sent my checkbook into action!:lmao:

However, in the end the BW was the better deal because they offer standard rooms at less points:lovestruc . Since I mostly book 11 months out I am able to get those rooms and stay longer than if I purchased SSR. When I want a BW view room I can also get that. And being so close to epcot is so priceless. Nothing beats walking home in 5 minutes from Epcot after illuminations with nearly no crowds (everyone is going the other way) In retrospect, I am sooooo glad we bought at the BWV!!

You got to figure 50 years or even 33 years is a LONG TIME!! Will you even like Disney in 10 years? My advice is to buy where you will be most happy and as you stated it is the BW or BCV. Out of all the DVC resorts BW is my favorite. The BCV are absolutely beautiful and SAB is awesome, however, I hated where the rooms for the DVC were. We had a view of the street. Even though the BCV is beautiful, I just felt like the magic was missing at the BCV due to where the rooms were. I have stayed at the BW in a standard room overlooking the driveway, where the ME comes in and the taxi's and the luggage and it was nicer ---way nicer than the room overlooking the street at the BCV.

If you really love Disney and DVC you will want to add on at some point. If DVC offers another monorail resort at the GF or Poly, would you add on. We just did an add on at the BLT and now have a contract for 50 years! I'll be 92 when it expires, but I'm not looking at 50 years down the road. I'm only looking at the 1st stay there in Feb 2010!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!!

I hope they don't do it LIKE they did for OKW, that was and still is a fiasco.
