I seem to recall a trip in September a few years back where there were love bugs? EVERYWHERE. Got all over our car driving down, they were swarming all over the resort.

Are they bad right now? We leave in two weeks. Just curious if I need to put some paper towels and windex in the car for the window!

Yep, it's getting into the time where they "swarm", have started seeing them all over the place the last few days. They will be gone by the end of the month. :)

Oh, so we might still catch them?

Is there any tip for getting them off the car window? Once I saw someone using some kind of foam on their window at a gas station...

I seem to recall our window being a huge mess....

What the heck is a love bug?
they are 2 little black bugs that are stuck?connected together, hense the name "love bug" They have like an orangish red spot on them... they fly all over the place & stay connected to each other. i haven't seen any yet this year....

Oh man, you are lucky to not be familiar with these little flies. They are like the plague around here. We've had a second hatch, so for a month you can barely see through the bug spatter all over the windshield. You can't even read license plates on the front of cars.

These things stick like crazy glue, too. We use the GM glass cleaner (foamy) plus a glass safe scouring sponge with very hot water and soap.

The end is near, thank goodness. By October they should be gone.

They are swarming all over our lawn and it's difficult to get into the house with them all over the front door :(. Fortunately, they'll be gone in a few weeks.

They are pesky, nothing eats them, their bug juice is like acid to car finishes and they don't seem to have any useful purpose..... I told my Dh they're probably a cure for something.

I use rain-X on my windshield and a good windshield washer in the car's wash tank. I also keep the car waxed and sealed to make cleaning easier. The best tip I have come across is to wash often and not let them dry and bake in the sun. If I come upon a particularly bad area on the interstate I will follow a big truck and let him clear the way for me or at least take the biggest part of them away on the front of his truck.

they were around when we were there in May at the WL..... icky..... I didn't notice them at the parks as much as I did at the lodge....

They were all over the place this past weekend. DS is freaked out by bugs, so it was a nuisance! They just fly right at you, even though they have no interest in you. They were at the parks and resorts, and even Blizzard Beach.

They were all over the place at CBR on my trip this past May. They weren't a big deal though, you would just notice them every so often. -Steph

.... just what do "Love Bugs" do (or rather, what ARE they) the 10 or so months that they're NOT being "Love Bugs?" :umbrella:

Got this from the net:

"When you don't see Love Bugs out, usually what's happened is the adult female has laid eggs in the grass clippings and died. And then the larvae are feeding. It takes them several months to mature. So between May and September they're in the larval stage and they aren't swarming over the roads."
