Love Bugs

Please tell me they are not there the end of June. We went Easter time last year and there were love bugs. We were off site and could not even sit by the pool. But the parks had less love bugs. Maybe Disney has love bug control?

Yup, they are bad. We actually quit going at that time of year because of it. Some years seem to be worse, but every year they are bad.

I love going to Disney at the end of Sept, but I vowed never to go during that time again because of those love bugs. They were AWFUL! As you said, they crawled under our hotel door and into our room. one night before bed i squashed 10 of them. SOOOOO DISGUSTING. I will never go thru that again.

Anyway, they do come around the same time every year. May & end of Sept. So good luck to you!

Nope. Dont worry. Theyre not around at the end of June. usually beginning of May, but not June. Your safe. ::yes::

We just got back and they were pretty bad around the pool area - a couple next to us who are "regulars" brought 2 battery operated fans (the kind you'd sit on your desk at the office - square about 4" x 4" or so) and that kept the bugs discouraged from landing around them (they were sitting at the pool bar and had them up on the bar top...::yes:: SOOOO if you've got room to pack them - might want to give that a try:cool2:

Horrible !!! i was on love bug patrol every night as well !!

Seems a lot of people had these problems ! I am hopping this September things will be different. If not we will have to re think when we go .. We are also goign in December for our first Christmas visit ! i would hope there would be no love bugs around that time !
Thank you all for sharing and helping !

I noticed them today at AK - not too many though. We get them in Houston Texas as well - same time of year - actually had to remove a ceiling fan from the back porch because it was love bug disabled- swarmed really. I haven't seen anything like that at Disney yet though - just a few flying around right now.

Now see, this is the funny thing. I've been at WL for the last 10 days, and I could probably count on my fingers the number of lovebugs I have seen. None around the pool, none when walking around the exterior of the resort, none when sitting on my balcony. I haven't even noticed them in the parks much. I did see three "couples" in MK - that was my biggest sighting.

They do tend to gather in certain areas, and they like light colored things. I was here a few years ago the last week of September and they were awful! You couldn't sit down anywhere without getting squashed bugs all over you. You couldn't open your mouth without risking swallowing one. They were bad in the parks and out. They were really bad around white benches, white buses, and white boats.

There's no way to predict where they will be, how many there will be, when they will start and when they will end. They typically arrive late April to early May and last about six weeks. They typically arrive mid September to late September and last about six weeks. They could be earlier or stay later. You might see a dozen total, or you might see dozens every minute. There's just no way to tell.

At least they don't bite!

I was there Sept 9-22 2011 and I saw them at Pop, but not at any of the parks.

They were pretty bad at the bus stops and in the stair wells. They are not afraid of us and will land on you. It's gross, but just brush them off.

I go in Sept for the free dining and the nice weather (can be really hot). The presence of love bugs won't keep me away :)

I absolutely LOVE laying out and catching some sun...I was so excited to finally go lay out our first day on vacation in Sept, and that's when I saw them...LOVE BUGS! We had no idea what they were, all I knew is that they were ruining my laying out time! I hate bugs so needless to say I didn't spend much time out of the pool, much to the delight of my DBF.

We saw very little of them at the parks, which was really good! I was so relieved!

We're going back in September, I'm just hoping it's not as bad as it was last year! And from what I read, our December trip sounds like its safe from any love bugs, although I doubt I'll be doing any sunbathing during that time of year...

we go are coming down in 2 weeks... I hope the little creatures are gone by then

We were there last week and left Disney a week ago today.

We only saw love bugs ONCE during our entire trip, and that was splattered on the ME bus windshield on the trip back to the airport (about 8-10 total).

However, we did see a big black snake slithering across the path in front of Epcot, but that's a completely different topic...

Omg I would totally freak out if I saw a snake!!! :scared1:

Not sure where to put this, but since the seemed to only be at the resort i will post here. I never heard of these before until we went on vacation last year. They where everywhere, couldn't lay out on the chairs by the pool, they crawled in under our door into our room and in my DGF hair it was crazy ! We are goign back in September same time we went last year, will it be this bad again ? i haven't read about it on the boards so maybe its just normal ?

spring and fall and they get in if housekeeping leaves te door open to clean the room---we always call housekeeping and ask them to "close" the door when cleaning and that helps. they are worthless bugs but sure are messy. and they need to be cleaned off the front of cars etc as they can cover them so bad autos/trucks can over heat. plus they can destroy the paint.:worship:

Oh that's a good idea, didn't even think about housekeeping. Will have to make sure we tell them next time, thanks!

Crazy what these bugs can do to your car!!

What my DGF is forgetting is our hotel room door didn't have a bottom flap to protect the gap between the door bottom of the floor.. i was putting towels every night against the door and trying to let it fall by the door when leaving ! Now that i think about it we should of told the front desk i am sure they would of had someone come up and fix it...

I was there in September and the CM's said it was the worst day of love bugs. Although they were everywhere, I did not find them to be as annoying as people make them out to be. I will be going again in September and couldn't care less if lovebugs Re at their peak. I think people make too big a deal of them.

We've done 2 in Sept & 1 in May (among other trips), but I understand Sept & May are their typical times. However, it's not the entire month. And they are very attracted to heat...we took an airboat ride & they were ALL OVER THE MOTOR and the whole warmed up metal boat! They stick to the warm car hoods, etc anything that warms up. But of our 3 trips, we only saw them on one of our trips.

I'm from the midwest & they look like lightening bugs (fireflies), but only stick together. If they weren't a nusiance, I'd say they were cute little critters.

We are going in two weeks also! We went several years ago during a 'high' time for lovebugs and I was seriously grossed out. They seemed to really focus on the bus stops when we were there. Crossing my fingers that we miss this disgusting 'window' for these bugs.
