Love bugs??

We are scheduled for the first week of September and have been told about the lovebugs. Is it that bad that we should reschedule???

Well, they can appear as early as late August and run into October, but there's no predicting exactly when they will appear or how many there will be. They come out twice a year, and are out now, but so far it's been a light batch.

They don't bite or sting or anything. But if there are swarms of them, they can be annoying. They can eat the paint off your car or rv if you don't wash them off right away and if they swarm, they can smear on the windshield so you can't see to drive. But they are basically harmless.

I have a trip scheduled for the first two weeks of September, and the only thing that would keep me away is a cat 5 hurricane.

The love bugs are bad...If you kill one... The scent will attract hundreds to the area. This is what we were told by a cabbie...And it is true , as my mom did not hear him...and stepped on one...we had them everywhere. I did not notice them all the time.

Love bugs look just like "lighting bugs" that don't light up. Unlike lighting bugs that only come out at night,,love bugs are around all the time.
I have never heard that story that the cabbie told rockydek. I lived a good portion of my life in mid Florida and never experienced that. But yes, they can make a mess of your car when they splatter, it's hard to scrub them off the car. And yes, theycan be a little annoying , but I'd never DREAM of canceling/changing ressies becasue of love bugs !

You can easily remove the lovely love bugs from your car hood by using pantyhose as a scrubbing agent...works beautifully. Please do not change you ressies due to love bugs. It really is not that often that you get swarms of love bugs, they truly are harmless. Enjoy your vacation.

We were there the last week of Sept 2010 and they were crazy! I've never seen anything like it. They were annoying they look like two lighting bugs with their buts stuck together. The only day that it was unbearable we were at Animal Kingdom, so bad that we left the park at like 2 pm and called it a day, and hung at the pool the rest of the day. The rest of the parks and our resort didn't seem nearly as bad. I wouldn't reschedule cause you don't know they might not be there your week.

Does anyone one know when the other love bug week is during the year?

I meant is it more in april, or more in may? We are going May 8th next year and i'm wondering if these horrible bugs are going to be everywhere.

Well, we encountered the lovely bugs today. Traveling down I95 into Florida was fine but as soon as we turned onto highway 4 at Daytona, they smacked the windshield - lots of them. Guess it was just an isolated swarm because we only had a few after that. Gotta get the front of the motorhome clean before they cause some damage on the paint. Ugh.
