Has anyone noticed how bad, if at all, the love bugs are in early May? Planning a trip during first week in 2008, was wondering how bad they are. Thanks all for any comments!princess:

No problem with them in May.

When do they come then? I think I remember reading about them in the first two weeks of May. Because we were scheduled to go down at the end of May and I was worried.

I thought it was March & Sept? :confused3

I know Sept for sure as we typically travel in Sept.

Had a bout of them in January due to warm weather... some locals were saying they (in theory) shouldn't be as bad this spring because so many of them came out too early & died off. Got me but sounds logical. Then again, you can never really predict Mother Nature.

I'm going 3rd week of May....please go away lovebugs....

I was at wdw in jan.....and i was surprised at how many
bugs there were.....hopefully they are confused and will
stay hibernated or dead:lmao:

We were at WDW for Mother's Day weekend last year, '06, and we didn't have any problem with love bugs.

Wickepedia says that Love bug season in Florida is May and September.

We Floridians have learned to enjoy those 2 months of the year.

In addition to clouding our car windshields and fouling the radiators those bugs make tasty additions to any beverage or meal consumed out of doors. High in protein and low in fat. :rolleyes1

they were in full swing last week of september- but by Oct 6 they were pretty much gone.

We have been enduring another dry spring, with the attendant brush fires. The only real upside is a general decrease in the bug population (good news for the summer!). I don't know if that means fewer love bugs, but there should be less bug-swatting in general until the rains return.

I was talking with a friend who lives in Orlando a couple of days ago, and she said the love bugs are just starting to come out. Since their season is only about 2-3 weeks, you should be OK in May.

Yes indeed, but they make a messy decoration on the back of your shorts.

May and September are the months. How bad depends on a number of variables. Just avoid white -- it attracts them.

I went to WDW the end of September last fall, and they were everywhere, especially around the BW pool--I guess they liked the bushes around there. You would pick up your pool towel to wipe yourself off, and YUCK! You'd be slimed by love bug guts! Please God, no love bugs in May!:worship:

For many years we vacationed in FL first week of May. I always saw the love bugs around but they didn't create much of a problem. Then....one year we drove back and forth to DVC Vero. Now I know why FL cars have those grills and other protection. Love Bugs hitting highway speed cars are....disgusting. Literally covering the windshield and antennae. We found some cheap glass cleaner that actually did pretty well clearing the windshield.

In many trips, we only had this one bad experience. But it was a doozy.

Okay, maybe I was mis-informed but while there in January this year we were being pestered by tons of bugs... little black buggers that were everywhere. We didn't know what they were but were told they were love bugs. If so they were a pain when eating outdoors and doing other lounging non-active things.

Hello,

Last year we were in WDW from Sept 20-30 and it was pretty bad. We're planning to go back this year but maybe at the beginning of Sept instead of the end. Will that make a difference? Do the love bugs usually arrive at the beginning of Sept?
Thanks!!!
