I live in Merritt Island, 5 miles from the port. Yes, love bug season has started. Not too bad yet, hopefully won't be as bad as last season!

thanks.. really hoping they aren't horrible. I heard sail away was cancelled once or twice last year. Hoping that doesn't happen with us. Nothing I can do about it if it does though.

The love bugs are out there - I was just in Melbourne over the weekend (a little south of Port Canaveral). On the turnpike at the rest areas there are hoses set up so you can wash them off the windshield.

Will you let us know when you get back? I've been watching these boards like a hawk hoping someone had some love bug news and so far nothing. Which I guess if I think about it is a good thing because maybe they aren't as bad this year.

I've been looking forward to the sail away party and finally getting a chance to wave at that stupid port webcam for a year now. (I know pretty pathetic huh) I'm going to be so bummed if we can't go out. I'm sure we'll still enjoy our cruise once we get out of the port.

lol YES we just got off the Dream yesterday and my DD had a few on her by the time we got to the car lol but not to bad....

We chose to abandon plans to spend 4/29 at the pool at AKL (after debarking) due to the stupid things.

They were AWFUL. They didn't seem to be attracted at all to my husband, but I was their constant landing pad!!! Blech.

Oh my gosh - I sailed last year on May 15th on the Dream - and they were just AWFUL!!!! It was something out of a horror show... We had the sail away party, but not many attended - the bugs were everywhere - like interactive confetti.... From what I understand, last year was an unusually bad season.

I hope they are minimal this year, for all you folks sailing!!!

We are sailing on Saturday and I would hate for sail-away to be compromised. The last time we sailed DCL was in the horrible winter weather of January 2010 and we just about froze our feet off. Now it's bugs???

Oh, well, I guess we can just start touring the ship earlier than planned!

Sense of humor --

Yes they are real bugs, and they make a mess on your car, and they are kind of attracted to white cotton clothes

But they are harmless - dont bite or anything, just that they kind of swarm and are everywhere.

I've never seen them alive but we were there just a week or so after they ended and the little corpses were everywhere. My daughters freak out at the sight of moths so I've been showing them the videos posted on Youtube trying to prepare them for "just in case". I'm definitely hoping they've died down by the time we sail on the 24th.
