Love Actually

I must watch it again--saw it 3 times on a return flight home from London--but none were straight through (traveling with small children ;)). I think between the 3 showings, I did get to see all of it. Got it for Christmas...and darned if I forgot to watch it today when I was scrounging for movies while DD2 was napping :(.

When I started watching it I was so confused, and I think I fell asleep. Then by the end (and a second viewing) I was loving it, and how it all tied together.

There are so few romantic comedies I actually do like, which is strange with my natural estrogen and all...:p
This movie is in my small collection of movies I want to see again, so I own it. I LOOOOOOOOOVE the deleted scenes. Emma Thompson with her son in one of them, as well as Liam Neison and his stepson are so funny I'm not sure why they were cut. (I even showed the Emma deleted one to my 10 year old son, I couldn't stop laughing at it, but apparently somehow I'm a 12 year old boy in some way.)
Most of this type of movie is "cute" or just plain "skip it" to me. My other two exceptions were "Bridget Jones'es Diary" and "Deliver Us From Eva". Those three are worth owning for me because I'll watch them again.

I liked that movie too. I don't know why, but it kinda reminds me of the other Hugh Grant movie,"About A Boy", which I liked. Maybe it was just Grant was in both. But I couldn't convince any of my friends to give either a chance.

Loved it loved it loved it. DH and I went to see it when it first came out and he hated it. Hated the way it seemed to come together so slowly. But we've rented it a few times since then and he has the soundtrack (he loves Christmas music and that little girl singing the Mariah Carey song). and I can't get enough of it.

TOV

This particular production company has the romantic comedy formula down to a T! I love all of their movies. Smart writing, interesting characters, and usually Hugh Grant or Colin Firth (or both)!

I really liked it! So many great actors in one movie. I loved the story between Colin Firth and the Portuguese girl. Emma Thompson was great as usual. Hugh Grant was very funny.

and a few bad reviews. Imagine my surprise when I actually watched it (finally rented it) and LOVED it! Definetly a must see, but you really have to pay attention. If you don't, I could see how people would not like it. It is hard to follow if you're not paying attention.

This movie was a huge disappointment to me. I like all of the actors and in theory, it's "my type of movie". But I thought it was ho-hum. In fact, I fell asleep!

But I'm glad you enjoyed it. Maybe I should rent it and try again.

This is how I felt about it too. I expected to love it since Colin Firth and Hugh Grant were in it, but I didn't, I was bored by it. Maybe I should watch it again as well.

I own both of these movies - they are two of my favorites! :sunny:

I loved the couple that didn't speak each other's language (Colin Firth) and the marriage proposal.

I as really disappointed the first time I saw it, but I missed the beginning. I actually thought Liam Neeson's stepson was a girl the first time I saw it, which made me think "Hmmm..." about that storyline. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Just thought it was brave of the producers to tackle that. The second time I watched it I figured out it was a boy.
It was an OK movie the second time I watched it. I love the actors in it, just didn't grab me.

I also LOVED this movie! I had no desire to watch it but one night it came on HBO and my dh was already sound asleep, so I left it on. I laughed and cried too! I didn't want it to end. It was sooo good!

DH and I both adore this movie and the good part is that it gets better every time you see it. We had a discussion last week about the scene where Emma Thompson realizes that her husband has bought the fancy jewelry for someone else. It is such an emotional scene and she doesn't say a word--and then the moment where she straightens the bedcovers before she leaves the room--it's brilliant. For anyone who has ever been through a betrayal like that--without wanting your children to know--it hits home.

But my favorite scene is where Emma Thompson asks her child "There were lobsters at the Nativity?" and the response is..."DUH."

SSB also enjoyed... not an all time favorite, but really did like it.

A later one, patterned after, "Noel", a bit more sketchy. :)

Isn't she amazing? I love that scene. Amy, have you seen Sense and Sensibility? I love the scene where Emma Thompson's character realizes that Hugh Grant's character is not married......she conveys more emotion in those couple of minutes than most actress do in a lifetime. Which is why she is hands-down the best living actress. I'd challenge anyone to pick someone better, she doesn't exist.

She is a great actress and very likeable, IMO. I love Sense and Sensibility, great movie. In that scene that you're talking about, WOW! I always cry right along with her, it's very moving!

I love that movie, as well. She's just fabulous. I saw her and Hugh Grant on Oprah when Love Actually first came out and Hugh Grant was talking about how Emma Thompson can cry buckets of tears on command. I'm trying to think of the other movie I love her in--it's a Shakespeare comedy--she was Beatrice and Kenneth Branagh was in it as well. Denzel Washington was the Duke. Ok--I had to look it up--Much Ado About Nothing. If you haven't seen that, be sure to check it out!

Love Actually is my favorite movie! I'm such the Hugh Grant fan and Colin Firth's pretty good too! :cool1: I have to agree that Emma Thompson is an incredible actress. She really comes across as real life and not acting. Love Actually has been on HBO quite a bit lately and I have caught hubby watching it by himself!! He loves it too. :teeth:
