Janet and I went to the NC State Fair this past Sunday. SO many colors, so many people! Who said there was a recession! You could not prove it Sunday. It was fascinating to see the quiet places and the crazy places.

Who knew they still had these things. Sounds like a TV series to me!

LOL- I am honored indeed. Very nice series!

You should have gone Friday. No crowds...since it was cold, windy, and rainy. I have never been when it was so empty. They closed early with no fireworks. I heard Sunday was quite different. Notice the lack of people at the corn stand.

I chaperoned a 2nd grade field trip to the NC State Fair yesterday, that was an experience!

Adding to the great shots above...

Winning entry in the cake decorating category, the cast of "Ace of Cakes" on the Food Network. Probably a first, a cake of people making cakes. Shot through old, scratched, fingerprint smudged Plexiglas.

Awesome pictures! :thumbsup2 I went last year and I couldn't believe how big it was! I had never been to a state fair before. That was one of the things I will miss about not living there anymore.

Thanks for these shots. I've always wanted to go to the fair, but have never gotten to. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your lenses.

Chaperoned a 2nd grade field trip, huh. A friend I work with did the same with a 4th grade class. He had two words...

NO MIDWAY

I think that was the school policy for the trip. He also used the expression "herding cats". Seriously, it must have been fun. I bet the kids had so much excitement seeing the animals, eating the food, and checking out all the exhibits. It is a mini Disney experience.

My daughter entered the photography and art contest for grades 3, 4, and 5. Though she did not win, it was very exciting going to the fair and walking to the Kerr Scott building to see her photo on display and checking to see if she won a ribbon. We both will enter next year.

Thanks for the photos :thumbsup2

I was born in Raleigh and did not move away from the area until I was 30 years old. We went to the fair every year. In school we even got a day off to go! :hippie: I have not been back since we moved. :sad2:

I have been to the Texas State Fair and the Oklahoma State Fair since but still think of the NC State Fair as being better.

Chaperons were given a map with appropriate buildings highlighted. We'd been a few nights before so I planned our route out ahead of time (pretty much stay to the perimeter of the fairgrounds) to minimize exposure both to midway rides and food and junky toy vendors. Managed to get it down to about 100 yards worth of midway and maybe 300 yards of food vendors.

The bigger challenge (other than keeping the kids together of course) was avoiding the political and religious booths shoving bibles and stickers into the hands of passersby.

I had football tickets to the State game on Thursday night and gave them away, not worth the fair/game traffic. You were brave to go on Friday it was ugly!

I completely agree! I grew up in Raleigh as well, but moved when I was in middle school. I loved the NC State Fair and looked forward to it every year. I have lived in TX since 97 and went to the fair once about 10 years ago and that was enough!

Thanks for posting these. I was at Disney the whole week the fair was going on, so no trip this year. This was only the 2nd time in around 20 years that I missed the fair. I have gone every year since I was 12. I did miss getting to eat some honey cotton candy, picking up some peanut bags, getting that wonderful apple cider by the old mill, and some fresh made milk from the NC State group. Oh well....next year. As you can tell, it is all about the food now. LOL.
