DD(7) is terrified of loud noises. Since this is our very first trip to WDW ever (I've been to Disneyland before), I was wondering what rides, shows, parades should I be aware of? I started watching some of the rides on YouTube to get an idea of things, but I know you veterans would have a better idea. I thought I might show her some of the rides on YouTube so she has a better idea of what to expect and won't freak out when a loud bang comes.

Any ideas would be so helpful. She has always been terrified of loud sirens, balloons popping, fireworks, etc....

Thanks,
Clea
First trip to WDW Aug/09
DD(7) and Twins DS(10) and DD(10)

I know that my little one was always scared of the 3-D movies (ones where you had to wear the glasses) - except for the muppets.

Maybe let her watch the rides on youtube so she will know what she wants to stay away from. My daughter watched all the rides over and over last year on there and knew exactly what she was willing to try and what she knew she did not want to do before we got there.

My 3 1/2 year old dd has suddenly become afraid of loud noises...so, for our upcoming trip I am getting a supply of ear plugs. I think so many of the shows/rides are loud (from my memory). I'll have her wear them before we leave to show her how it quiets the loud sounds - and probably come up with a cute name -- something like "ear buddies". They also come in cute neon colors. HTH

I would say It's Tough To Be A Bug (Animal Kingdom) would be one to be wary of. It says that it's "intense" right on the park information sheet. They mean it. I previewed it before offering to take my then-7yo on (he doesn't care for loud noises either) and my mom and I were in agreement -- it was a big "NO" for him.

I also don't think he'd like Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom (another one we previewed). He was fine with pretty much everything at MK and Epcot... and everything we chose to do at DHS (although he didn't want to go on ToT or RnRC anyway so he didn't try those.)

Honey I Shrunk the Audience is ear-splitting. Have you thought about bringing ear plugs?

I bring ear plugs for myself! I have a hard time with loud noises too. They really hurt my ears. I like the ones that mold to the shape of my ear. They seem to muffle the noises well, but not completely drown them out.

Birnbaum"s WDW Guide for Kids has a description of each ride and they put little symbols for rides that are loud, dark or scary. My kids love to use the book and help plan our days.

I would bring ear plugs. I have found that everything at Disney tends to be louder.

I second the Peltor earphones. My dd8 has auditory defensiveness (i.e., she hates loud or sudden noises). Bring earplugs as a backup (the soft foam ones are great) in case you leave the earphones in the pocket of your seat on a ride. :rolleyes1

I agree with this - the book is very good for giving accurate descriptions of the rides.

I would avoid Dinosaur. I thought about trying DD7 on this last year and rode it first before taking her and I'm glad I did. I forgot how noisy it is.

The 3D films are very loud.

There are a lot of gun bangs in Pirates of the Carribean, Indiana Jones and the motor Stunts Action Show.

Also DD hated Space Mountain - she said it was too noisy and dark.

I would also wear ear plugs for the fireworks. Its the only way my DD will watch them. If you run out in the park go tot he first aid centre and they will give you some. So kind and friendly in there.

We went to Disney this past December and my son (2) exclaimed "It's Loud!" during Philharmagic. I also recall a big bang at the very end of the Imagination ride...the one with Figment. These were the only rides he commented about the noise volume.

However now that I think about it I suppose Pirates of the Caribbean has the canon shots while going by the big ship...not tremendously loud, but could be surprising.

You guys are awesome. I am going to get some earplugs (probably two pair) for the trip. I think it will save us alot of tears and hopefully, I won't have to sit out of too many things. I had to sit out of my DS Cub Scout ceremony because the performer had a drum that scared the daylights out of her. I don't want to have to do this at WDW. I have waited my entire life to get there and want ALL of us to have a good time, not just DH and my twins!!!

Thanks again,
Clea
