DH and I have been trying to plan a 10th anniversary trip for, um, two years. :) Looks like we may make it a 12.5 year anniversary trip instead.

I just won Universal tickets from My Coke Rewards, which is what led us to US.

I have been looking at the US resorts, and I think we may want to stay on site. It would be a quick trip - 4 nights - and I would love to not have to get a rental car.

Questions I have:

  • Is there any major difference among the 3 resorts?
  • Is one more grown-up friendly than others (we love kids, but wouldn't mind something a little quiters since it's just the two of us).
  • If we do not rent a car, what sort of transportation is available from the airport to the resorts? Cost?
  • Does the Universal Express Pass for guests differ from the one they sell?

I am sure I'll have more questions soon. I have never done a trip where we used air travel! I plan all our vacations, but we usually drive! I haven't been to US for nearly 15 years - so excited for Harry Potter!

The atmosphere at each resort is very different. For a romantic and quit getaway, I would definitely recommend Portofino Bay! It is the most expensive of the resorts however. As far as the express pass goes, onsite guest get unlimited use at each of the attractions, where as off-site guest who purchase the pass only get to ride once.

See my response in blue :)

RPR is Island themed and the cheaper of the hotels but still considered Deluxe. Lots of families.
HRH is just that...Rock and Roll themed, this is our favorite! Lots of young people and families and couples.
PBH is Italian themed and I think geared more for what you are looking for.

If I had to choose, I would choose PBH-Portofino

Not sure as we drove last time.

Staying onsite gives you UNLIMITED Express Pass entry from the morning you check in (even if your room is not ready yet) until the park closing the day you check out. The one you purchase is only good that day for one ride per attraction. We love staying onsite and wouldn't do it any other way! Keep in mind that Forbidden Journey, Rip Ride Rock It, and Pteranydon Flyers do not have an Express Entry at all. Staying onsite though also gets you in early.
