I'm a brand new member and have been reading threads for the last two hours. I'm thoroughly confused! We're interested in buying, but I'm not sure where to get all the information. I read one message that said Disney is doing some "deals" right now - where can I find all the information on that? The Disney site I went to said $101 per point, minimum 150 points, and that was it. I'd love to take advantage of some deals. Is there a special offer page that I'm missing??

Thanks!

If you call DVC and ask to speak to a guide directly AND ask specifically for any and all current incentives and programs, you should get a pretty comprehensive package and offer(s) fed-exed to you pretty quickly. Our package contained information about multiple incentive offers.

DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare, so you'll be doing a real estate deal. Most of the resorts last until 1/31/2042. SSR lasts until 1/31/2054 if that is important to you. I'll be 104 when SSR expires so I stayed with the others.

Thanks - that's what I'm looking for. No place on the internet to get a quick glimpse of these "deals", huh??

I'm also wondering how definite the room occupancy is. We have three young children and would be quite comfortable in a one-bedroom villa, but it says max occ 4. Would we have to go to a two-bedroom?

Be aware that DVC room occupancy is hot topic here on the DIS. Currently, member services is booking 5 into a one bedroom unit, however, no one know how long that particular policy will last, most speculate it will stay at 5. As you've noticed, everything in writing says "4", so they can change it if they see a problem.

There are no rollaway beds or cats available at DVC resorts, so an inflatable mattress or sleeping bag would be a good option for that 5th person...unless your kids are young enough and small enough to all sleep together on the sofa sleeper. Also DVC will not provide extra towels and bed linens for the 5th person. Towel packs (4 bath towels, 4 hand towels, 4 washcloths) are available for an additional charge of $6.

I'll leave the thread open for now, because you are discussing other things, not just occupancy, but our general policy is to close all threads that discuss occupancy and refer them to this thread DVC Occupancy thread If the discussion becomes heated, this thread will be closed.

Right now, member services is allowing families to book 5 in a 1 bedroom, but NOT a studio. You will likely be fine in a 1 bedroom for a few years, but by the time the oldest becomes a teenager, you will definitely want that 2nd bathroom!

One thing I find people kind of forget when they are looking into buying a Disney timeshare, is that they will be going to Disney every year (or 2-3 times a year like some of us :teeth: ), so you tend to enjoy the resort more and become less of a theme park commando. That means you will start spending a bit more time in the room and taking advantage of the kitchen and in room laundry more and more. Also, most of us seriously UNDER estimated how many points we would need. We too felt we could get by on a minimum number at first, because our family had already grown and "flown the coup". It didn't take long for us to discover that we needed to nearly double our point total to be able to utilize it as it was meant.

Start with that 150 point buy in and see how you do for a few years, and then you can add on smaller amounts at a time as you like.
