Lots of prayers please UPDATE 8

Today we get the MRI results back on her uterus/overies.......they are going to try to get a earlier appt.....so depending on results they can at least get appointments set for after christmas...

I called last night and they had taken all of there Christmas stuff down..:( :( :( ...They are spending Christmas with family in maryland but would have kept the stuff up but because of impending surgery and what ever else is in store they took everything down......I started to cry when they told me this.....

Thanks everybody for your prayers and thoughts.....

Praying for good results from the MRI Kim. I too think that is sad about the decorations. Hang in there {{{hugs}}} to you and your family.

Dad called MRI showed NO CANCER in overies/uterus.....So, they are actually looking up.....MY dad has sounded kind of up beat today.....Odd that one would look at having breast cancer as good news.....but hey.....it is just breast cancer they will be battling.......But the BEST news is they are Headed for Duke University for treatment.......I'm sooooo glad.....

I think they might even enjoy the next few days.....before talking to the Drs on Friday......

Thanks everybody for your thoughts and prayers.....

Good to hear the somewhat positive news Kim. Continued prayers in hope that the breast cancer will be beat {{hugs}}

Said another prayer for her today, Kim and glad that the cancer has not spread.
Take care!!!

My Mom originally had breast cancer almost 7 years ago (in March). She did well until about 3 years ago she had an enlarged lymph node on her neck. Shortly thereafter, the cancer returned on her chest wall under the skin. They gave her a weekly gene therapy treatment called Herceptin that took it away for a year. Then it came back in her neck and liver and she started on weekly taxol. That controlled it for 1 1/2 years. It recently came back again and she is on pills called Xeloda that she takes for 2 weeks and 2 weeks off. There are alot of new treatments out there. She's been able to live a fairly normal life through all this, including several vacations.

My thoughts are with you and your family. It's good news that it has not spread.

Oh, so happy to hear a silver lining in this sad story, Kim. Your mom remains in my prayers.

I'm headed to visit my Dad and Stepmom tomorrow am...Sat Feb8...I wanted to bump this thread up so I could show it to them....

UPDATE....she has had mastectomy and is recovering OK...had a bit of a scare last week...as the drain tube was being removed they were afraid her nausea and pain might be the signs of brain cancer....they did a MRI and everything tuned up OK.....she is now getting ready to start radiation on her bones...her bones in her legs are causing her unbelieveable pain and they are hoping that the radiation will ease this pain...

Funny aside....Dad went to purchase the pain meds Oxycontin.....the pharmists says this is really expensive...dad says OK...he says NO REALLY expensive....dad says...what do you mean....pharmisits says $1089.00 for 30 days.....dad says something unprintable in SHOCK...fortunately his insurance covered about $850.00 so he ONLY had to pay about $300....OUCH:earseek: :earseek: :earseek: He will now be sending to for mail order to his insurance company where the cost is a flatrate....My dad said to was sort of amusing and shocking at the sametime...

Thanks for all your prayers previously...

This is the first I've seen this thread. I hope and pray that your stepmom's recovery is smooth and quick. It's great that your dad retains his sense of humor through the whole ordeal!

YIKES Kim....I'd be saying something that can't be listed here too!!!!! HOLY CANOLI!!!!!

I am keeping her and your family in my prayers!

Good to hear the update, Kim, and that your stepmom is on the road to recovery. My prayers are with her, your dad and all the family.

Those meds can be very expensive. When Marie was in treatment for her breast cancer in '99, there was an injection of Neupogen needed, one per day, for five days after each chemo treatment (there were 8). So, there were 40 injections. Total cost for just those 40 injections was $28,000. Thanks for insurance!!!!

Thanks for the update Kim! Glad to hear that she is doing okay recovering. I hope the pain in her legs goes away soon too. And wow!!! Those are expensive meds!!! Somehow I am glad I never saw any of my mom's treatments when she was fighting cancer!!

Continued prayers for you all.

Saying prayers that all goes well. {{{Hugs}}}

How sad about the Oxy cost...what happens to the elderly who have no pharmacy benefits?

That is outrageous, what happens if people don't have that kind of money? Do they just stay in pain?

I hope the radiation helps the pain in your stepmother's legs. I still have her in my prayers.

Katholyn

I too, just saw this thread. My prayers for your family and step mom.

Glad to hear your mom made it through the surgery o.k. and that the cancer has not spread to her brain.

I found out the hard way about the mail-in program. I hope your Dad has no problem getting the meds for you Mom this way in the future, Kim.

I'm still keeping your family in my prayers.

Prayers and good thoughts that she begins to recover from the surgery and the cancer can be dealt with successfully.
