It's getting to be dry skin season and mine is starting early this year!
I've tried all kinds of lotions, but the more traditional types (think Vasaline) do nothing. I stood in the lotion aisle at Walgreens today for 10 minutes today, but I'd hate to shell out more $$ for something else that just doesn't work. I'm looking for any and all lotion suggestions, home remedies, etc. before it gets even worse. Thanks!!!!!

I swear that I'm part lizard! I double up in the winter with a layer of Aquaphor and a top layer of Johnsons Softlotion. My skin gets so dry that it hurts, and this combo helps so much. I've tried everything before I found this combo!

Johnson & Johnson Shea and Cocoa Butter Baby Lotion.

It is THE BEST (in my opinion) for the size, cost, and results. Moisturizes for 24 hours, and found in the baby aisle. I believe the cost was just under $4 at Walmart, and it is a big bottle. It will last me all through winter.

I use it on my hands, elbows, knees, and even my face during the Autumn/Winter months. Love it, love it, love it!!

I swear by Curel lotion...my girls had excema when they were babies and it was the only thing I could use on them in the winter. I just started to use it again this week; with the temp going down here and the heat on, my skin is starting to dry out too!

I *have* to use Olay In The Shower Moisturizer for winter. Regular lotions don't seem to sink in like that stuff does, when it's cold and dry outside.

You reminded me, I need to pick some up. I'm getting the dry/itchies as of late, too.

Cetaphil in the tub for daily use with a Neutrogena Sesame Oil overlay, Aquaphor for bedtime. Grease up liberally after baths!!!

My skin cracks so much I bleed sometimes. You also need to stay hydrated with lots of water. Good luck to you :)

Another vote for Curel, I have tried just about everything...from the expensive department store stuff to drugstore brands and I always come back to Curel!

I prefer the original version :thumbsup2

I love Aveeno skin relief moisturizer...its the bottle with the blue top. Its for extra dry skin.

It works great !!! especially in Winter...Phoenix is so dry....it really makes my skin feel soft and I don't have the dry scalies;);)

Nothing works like Renew from Melaleuca. Totally awesome stuff! Works great on everything...dry skin, eczema, diaper rash, ...

Only thing I've found that works for me is baby oil.

Curel, as recommended by my dermatologist.

Curel is water based and works great for some but not for me. When I was going through radiation that was the only lotion we were allowed to use because it is water based not oil based and won't worsen the burning you get from the radiation. I used it right after radiation and then 3 times a day as directed by the Dr and had to wash it off prior to radiation just to be sure. If you need an oil base curel won't work for you in the dry winter.
I use aquafor or Nutrogena Noregian formula for my hands in the winter. they crack and bleed terrible.
For my body which looks like someone covered me in chalk powder unless I lotion up good, I like anything with cocoa butter. That seems to last longest on me. I also make sure to use a really good moisturizing body wash. I am using the Dove with moisture now and it works good, but winter hasn't started yet.
I drink alot of liquid and am always well hydrated but I still have terrible dry skin and hands during the winter. I really don't think hydration has anything to do with my skin although they do say hydration helps. I can't imagine what my skin would be like if I became dehydrated, I drink at least 64 oz of water with crystal light every day plus my tea in the am and pm.

I'm a lotion addict. Currently I'm using Gold Bond ultimate softening shea butter lotion. It's nice and thick, but not too greasy. Vaseline makes a nice shea butter cream as well. I like the one in the tub, not the lotion.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter! I use this all year long and it keeps my skin soft and hydrated. They also make a concentrated hand cream that is greeeeat.

Aveeno Advanced Care moisturizing cream. My son has had eczema his whole life (all 11 years) and this is the only non-medicated product to ever really work on him. I thought others were good in the past, but nothing compares to this product.

I find the "body butters" to work much better than lotion. They can be pricey at Basin, etc., but I've found some pretty reasonable at Walmart.

Between the philosophy body wash and lotion I have never had softer skin than I have had for the last year or so since I started using it. For me it is worth the money since I actually use only about half the amount of lotion I used to use.
