Lost tickets?

Pulled out my Disney tickets to check on remaining days to see an expiration on them from 2008. Looks like the non-US ticket agent screwed up our tickets and our Disney vacation next week is gone. I'm beyond ticked off. For new tickets and the difference of what we lost is approx. $2000. I feel sick.

Any recommendations? The phone # for ticketing said you had to e-mail or fax so I e-mailed and am just waiting to hear back. I'm ready to cry.

I don't understand what you are saying. Did you book a trip with the expectation of using old ticket days and not purchase tickets for this trip? Did you originally purchase non-expiring tickets in 2008 (if not, they always expire after 14 days of initial use)? Did your TA not provide tickets for your package/vacation?

I would like to try to help, but I don't quite understand what you are trying to do. You cannot get ticket day balances on non-expiring cards via phone or email. It has to be done at customer service at Disney.

I THINK:

OP bought tickets from non-US vendor (Maple Leaf, perhaps?); ordered or thought she had No Expiration Option on them; just found out they were regular tickets which expired in 2008; now can't afford to buy new tix for the upcoming family trip.

If I got that right...well, that stinks OP!

That's what I understood too. I'm sorry. :(

I'm sorry. Do you have any documentation from your trip in 2008? It should say on your trip quote and reservation what type of tickets you paid for.

What I mean is we bought our tickets at Disney World. The ticket booth agent that was helping us was not from the US (thick accent, not sure what country) and we were having some communication problems. We thought we bought 6 day park hopper no expiration tickets as our plans was to use 3 days and then come back when our kids were older and use the other 3 days. We had even had this conversation with the agent while buying the tickets.
Fast forward 5 years and we're going to FL next week. I pulled out our tickets so I could find out how many days we have left (I couldn't remember if we used 2 or 3 days as we went to Sea World as well) and discovered the "tickets expire 14 days after first use" stamp on the back. We were planning to use the tickets for this trip. The cost to buy new tickets and considering what we lost is about $2000. I want to throw up.

We won't be able to go to Disney at all now.

Are you absolutely sure they are not no-expire? Maybe the 14 days from 1st use is printed on all tickets, no matter what format is purchased? I have no idea, but maybe? Hoping for the best for you........

So sorry this happened to you. But my best guess is that you really didn't 'lose' anything (unless you saved your receipt with what you paid and know that you paid for something you didn't receive). If there was a communication issue - I would guess the CM didn't realize you preferred non-expiring and that you likely only paid for the 6 days at the time. Yes, a loss, but not a huge one. Back in that day - I'm guessing the price difference between 3 and 6 days was likely very small - Looks to be around $35 difference today and I bet it was less back then. BUT, you can say that you SAVED money on that first trip because not paying for non-expiring instead you likely paid at least $140 - $160 less per ticket than you would have on that.

How many tickets are you talking about? To pay an additional $2000 for 3 day tickets that would mean paying for up to 8 - 9 tickets.

Of course, if you truly did pay for non-expiring back then - that is a MUCH greater loss. But I find it difficult to think a CM could easily charge that much more for a ticket without activating the proper type of ticket. My guess is that the computer won't let the CM do that or it would be too easy for them to intentionally ring up a higher sale and pocket the money. But maybe a CM could comment here to say whether or not that's even possible. Did you pay with a credit card and can you do a search to find out the total you were charged back then? I think that might make you feel much better if you're able to confirm you weren't charged for the non-expiring and hopefully this is the case.

Thanks me too! That was a question I asked in my e-mail to customer service ticketing. I'm pretty much glued to my computer now looking for a response. (which according to the automatic reply can take up to 5 business days). I could be in FL before I hear back.

If you bought them at Disneyworld could you call guest services ??

When I say we lost about $2000 is because we bought 3 tickets, 2 adult and 1 child (my other child was free then). To purchase 3, 3 day park hopper tickets is roughly $1000. Plus we didn't use 3 or 4 days on the original tickets. It really wouldn't be another $1000 as the add on days are cheaper but I'm just thinking of "sticker value". I could have sworn we were charged for the no expiration since when we bought the tickets they didn't seem cheaper than what we were calculating on spending. KWIM. Anyway, I'm pretty sure we're just out that money and won't get to go to Disney this time. Also, I'm out the money for my share in a Photopass. It just hurts that it's all due to a communication break down. (was what I was assuming, I didn't even think that the CM would pocket the difference of money. I just assumed it was a "printing the tickets" error.)

I did. They said any questions about old tickets has to be either e-mailed or faxed. I e-mailed just glued to my computer now waiting with a horrendous bad feeling....

I have no-expiry tickets from 2007. They say "no expiration" on the back. I also bought some 6-day MYW hoppers last summer and they have the 14-day expiration printed on them.

OP, it looks like you've lost those remaining days that were on the tickets. It's unfortunate that you didn't catch the mistake sooner. I don't know if Disney will do anything about it 5 years later unless you can prove that you paid for no-expiry and didn't get it.

I have old tickets from 2006, and they do say no expiration. (I have several old passes, with just PLUS admissions left on them).

There is a date printed on them, it is just the date they were printed.

I would call Disney. I would have them look up the tickets, and point out that you bought 6 days, for 4-6 tickets, or whatever you have. They can look up and SEE that you only used 3 days for all of those passes. I would then ask them to consider that you meant to buy no expires, because why would you buy 6 days and use only 3? And save those passes. They can probably even see what CM was working, to back up your communication issue with the CM.

Of course, you are responsible for looking at your tickets when you buy them.... That is the #1 problem. And you did pay LESS for those passes, so if Disney were to do something, you still owe them some $$ (difference between no expire and expiring passes).

Good luck, it is worth a call at least.

I recently realized that I lost 4 SEVEN day hopper to Universal/IOA/Wet n' Wild (never used, just picked up). So I know your pain. I am still looking, and may call Universal to ask them to research it (they were Will Call).

Good Luck.

Disney customer service is top notch. I am optimistic that they will work out a satisfactory resolution for you. I'm sure miscommunications happen all the time. Keep us posted on their response.

From AllEars Ticket History page:
Adult: $217.00-$225.00 6 Day Magic Your Way Base / with PH - $262.00-$275.00 /
with WPF&M - $267.00-$275.00 / Premium (incl. PH & WPF&M) - $312.00-$325.00 / add $65.00-$80.00 for no expiration
Child (3-9): $181.00-$190.00 6 Day Magic Your Way Base / with PH - $226.00-$240.00 / with WPF&M - $231.00-$240.00 / Premium (incl. PH & WPF&M) - $276.00-$290.00 / add $65.00-$80.00 for no expiration

Two prices shown due to before/after annual increase.

OP, do you know how much you paid for each ticket and when you bought them? Prices went up August 2nd that year, and the numbers above don't include tax. So you would've paid:
$615 plus tax for base tickets + $34 after 8/2
$810 plus tax for non-expiring base tickets + $34 after 8/2
$714 plus tax for park hoppers + $36 after 8/2
$909 plus tax for non-expiring park hoppers + $36 after 8/2

OP sorry about your problem. I hope you can figure something out.
OT but how were you going to check the remaining days on the tickets? I have a few laying around that I think have some remaining days but I thought you could only check them at Disney?
