Not sure if this is the right board for this thread (if not mods please feel free to move).

We have a trip planned on 11/2 to WDW. My BFF bought my son's airfare for him and he paid her back with WDW gift cards. He bought 2 - one for $50 and one for $100 and still has another $100 card to buy.

I gave her the gift cards soon after he bought them in September. In the meantime, she has moved and in the middle of moving was robbed. She is not sure if the gift cards were lost or stolen. We bought them at BJs and I took the receipt in there and they said to call Disney. When I got home I called Disney and they said they couldn't do anything without the 16-digit account number on the card (which obviously we don't have).

So my question is do you think we are out of luck or should we take the receipt to Disney with us and see if they can help?

I feel terrible for her but I also realize gift cards are meant to be treated as cash so I think she might be SOL.

When you buy gift cards at BJs you get two receipts - one for the purchase and another for the activation of the card. The activation receipt has the last four digits of the card's code on it. If you take that receipt to the BJ's customer service desk they can scan it and tell you all the information about the card (I know this because I just bought $5500 in gift cards to pay for a cruise).

I would try BJs again - maybe you'll get a more knowledgeable person!

Thank you aprilchem. I am going to try that. Can't hurt and might help. I do have all three receipts - the sales receipt plus the 2 smaller receipts for the activation. I am going to go in and try it today and cross my fingers that someone else will be at the customer service desk.

If BJS won't help you, go over to the rack of Disney cards and jot down the customer service on the back of the card. Then call the customer service number and explain your situation and give them the 16 digit number. They should be able to tell you the status of the card ie: if someone has already used them or not. And hopefully if they have not been used, they (customer service) should be able to deactivate the card and issue new ones I would think.

Good luck

She doesn't have that 16 digit number. I'm going to go make photocopies of my gift cards tonight!

Yes! Definitely copy the back of your card. I always copy my tickets, gift cards, etc. Because it was for a friend, I didn't copy the card or even scratch the back of the card to see the full number. I have never lost anything Disney-related but I like to have them just in case.

BFF on the other hand is a different story. On our last trip to Disney, I gave her a $250 WDW gift card which she left at her house and we couldn't go back to get it because we had an early morning flight. Then on the way to the airport she left her folder with her Disney tickets, Universal tickets, and her kids' Disney gift cards plus a small amount of cash in the bathroom at McDonald's.

We live in NH but were flying out of Portland and didn't have time to drive all the way back to NH and make it back in time for our flight. My DH stopped on the way home because he didn't go with us and by some miracle they were there (even the cash!)

I was able to get the $250 WDW gift card replaced at Epcot because I had the store receipt but even that one was bought at a grocery store so I'm not sure how they did it. I had copied all the backs of her Disney/Universal tickets though and kept them with me along with everyone's airline tickets so it wasn't as much of a disaster as it could have been.

The new rule is if we go on another trip to Disney, I hang on to everything!!!

BTW - I did go back to BJs today. I took the receipt and told my story to the customer service person again. She told me I had to call Disney. I told her I already called Disney last time when she told me that and Disney told me to come here.

So then she says to call the BJ's customer service 800-number. My DH asked her to call right then and there. She said she didn't know who to ask for when she called. DH said "if you are a BJ's employee and don't know who to ask for then how do you suppose we will know?" She made the call and the customer service rep told me I needed to go to the store where I bought the cards. I told her I was at the store where I bought them and they told me to call the 800 number.

She asked me for the numbers from the receipt and then wanted the gift card number. If I had the gift card number I wouldn't be calling you because Disney would have already taken care of it!

Anyway, she is submitting a request to some department or other, and I should know in 2-3 business days whether I can get them deactivated and reissued. I realize if someone spent them already I can't do anything about it, but I think I must be the first person in the world this has happened to because absolutely not one person had the first clue who might be able to look into it for me.

So take a copy of the back of your gift cards if you have an unlucky friend like me or just for your peace of mind.

They only had the last digits? I used mine but when I went through the self serve at SAMs Club I wasn't sure if thy activated. cS showed my on the receipt the card numbers that were activated.
I take photos of all my cards anymore. I saw someone in the park wasting time trying to find photos on the pass as they lost their card.

I was in WDW earlier this month and made a purchase with two gift cards. The first card had a small balance which I used up and then paid the balance on the second. It looks like the CM gave me back the card with the $0 balance. The good news is I registered the card on the Disney Gift Card app, the bad news is I can only access the first twelve numbers. All sixteen numbers are there but I can't access them. Does anyone have any idea who I can contact or how to access the **** information? The balance on the card is $86. Thanks!

I was able to get a new card when my DH lost some of our gift cards. I went through the Disney gift card website, and I think I ended up calling to speak to someone. I had to send them copies of my original receipts and they were able to determine what was still left on the cards, and they sent me a new card in the mail. They were very helpful on the phone, and if you have the receipt with the activation, they should be able to help you as well.
