LOST - Season 2 (No spoilers)

What kind of meeting were Locke and Helen at in the beginning of last night's episode? I couldn't figure it out.

I think it was some kind of meeting to help you deal with your anger towards someone or something that happened in your life.

Okay, the Hanso Foundation web site opens a whole new can of worms for speculation. Interesting active projects they have going -- life-extension, electromagnetic research, search for extraterrestrial intelligence, mathematical forecasting, ...

juxtapositional eugenics????

I've wondered if there were any clues in the comic book beyond the polar bear appearance. I was thinking it was a research project to reverse engineer technology from a crashed UFO, but maybe they're reverse engineering the genetic makeup of the UFO inhabitants??

I'm going to watch this episode again at lunchtime. I have to admit it was very considerate -- there aren't many mysterious deserted islands in the South Pacific that come with training videos. :teeth:

Question -- I *SWEAR* I remember reading something on this board or maybe another about the race around the world thing!! Did anyone else remember reading something about that? I think someone might have mistakenly revealed a spoiler, but it wasn't on this board I don't think.

Maybe Desmond was on the Amazing Race!

Replacements were supposed to come every 540 days. 108 x 5= 540.
Can't take credit for this as my dh emailed me with it from work.

My favourite lines from last night:

Jack "How could you not know we were here all this time?"

Desmond "I don't get out much" :rotfl:

Did anyone else LOL when Locke exclaimed "We need to watch that again!" I have a feeling the writers were mocking us!!! :rotfl:

I definitely did and burst out laughing. :teeth:

Argh I CANNOT get Dharma and Greg out of my mind!!! :rotfl2:

Here are the "Active Projects" on the HANSO website:

The Hanso Life-Extension Project
The Hanso Foundation Electromagnetic Research Initiative
The Hanso Quest for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence
The Hanso Mathematical Forecasting Initiative
The Hanso Cryogenics Development Imperative
The Hanso Juxtapositional Eugenics Development Institute
The Hanso Accelerated Remote Viewing Training Facility

The eugenics one seems really creepy...eugenics is the "belief that information about heredity can be used to improve the human race." Remember when Desmond said he was on a RACE around the world!

I feel like I'm getting my chain yanked a bit here. It *seems* crystal clear that Dharma and the DeGroots set up this whole thing as a psychological experiment. However, that can't be the entire story because of all the other things that are happening. Like, were "our" survivors brought there on purpose or was it really an accident that happens to be interfering with the experiment that is still going on after all these years.

I fell asleep and missed the last 20 or so minutes of last night's episode, but read what I missed on recaps. Although it doesn't seem like I missed all that much.

Call me crazy, but I would have sworn that Katey Segal introduced herself as ELLEN, and then was known as HELEN the rest of the episode. Anyone else hear that?

With the whole Jin speaking English thing, I hope there is a good reason because like someone else said, they really went out of their way last season to show us him hearing the garbled words and learning some words before setting sail. If he somehow just knows English, I will be annoyed.

And on the HANSO website if you put your mouse just under "The Hanso Accelerated Remote Viewing Training Facility" what do you see???

"Dharma Initiative"

I wonder what "accelerated remote viewing" could mean?

Anyone play around with HANSO? I noticed the word SON is in there. Also, it makes me want to say "HAS NO," though I don't know "has no WHAT?" I could really be reaching, but who could blame me?? :teeth:

I put the words "alvar hanso" into an anagram finder and didn't come up with anything hopeful.

Good find! I looked at the page source and there's about 5 'dharma's in there but I didn't find anything unusual.

OK, could HANSO FOUNDATION possibly mean "Has no foundation?" In other words, we are chasing our own tails? Maybe they are just playing with us.

I found this recap of last night on TV Guide.com It summed up my thoughts pretty well. :rotfl:

I was getting a little worried when the beginning of tonight's episode rehashed, again, what we'd already seen for the last two weeks in the hatch. But it finally progressed beyond what happened after Jack recognized Desmond. And we got to see a creepy little film that is clearly jumpy and missing some key parts. But who the heck is this Hanso guy who is funding this whole Swan-Dharma plan? Why'd they have to go and give me nightmares by showing that blurry, far-off picture of him? What is the significance of having each pair committed to service for 540 days? And if the Dharma Initiative was created in 1970, why was the copyright on the film 1980? Did it take 10 years to implement, or was it up and running for that long before things went really bad? And why was the orientation film hidden behind a copy of The Turn of the Screw? What exactly does a spooky ghost story about a governess have to do with this island? Is Desmond not real? And I've got to know, what exactly did Locke think it was going to be like when he got into the hatch? Does he know something about this whole electromagnetic field that we don't? He gets odder and odder each week, and the whole backstory with Katey Sagal didn't really help matters. I get that he'd be ticked off at the fake dad who stole his kidney, but sitting outside of his house every night is not going to do any good. He's a clever guy; I'm sure he could have figured out a nice plan for payback if he put his mind to it. Hmm… maybe he did, and that's how he ended up in the wheelchair.

On the other side of the island, Ana-Lucia totally scammed our boys and looked like Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider coming out of the pit holding on to a rope and carrying Sawyer's gun. I don't know if these people are crazy or just power hungry, or even if they are all from the plane, but those are all things I can't wait to find out.

Did anyone else wonder why Desmond grabbed some of his things and ran when the countdown clock was near zero? If you really think the world is going to end how would running a few hundred feet help you?

On the Hanso web site about the founder it said something about sophisticated weapons systems. I wonder it that is what the monster is and that it was set it up on the island as a testing ground. He was working on this stuff during WW2, maybe that is when the ships and planes started crashing on the island. Remember the bodies found in the caves, "Adam and Eve", had been there for a long time, I think 50 years.
