Lost Luggage?

I'm flying out of Pearson in Toronto but on an american airline - don't know which one yet. Unfortunately we will prob have to do at least 1 connection in the U.S.

We are getting to Orlando on Oct 22 night and leaving for a DCL cruise the next morning - we can NOT wait for lost luggage and our vacation will literaly be RUINED if they lose our big checked bags.

Has anyone got any advice or experience with United, Delta or Continential out of Pearson or elsewhere in Canada?

I've only flown Canadian airlines and only direct flights before.

Thanks in advance!
Tarin

Well, in my experience, the only airline that has lost or delayed my luggage is dear old Air Canada. Have never had Continental, Alaska or Southwest lose my stuff.

That said, it could still happen--I guess the best defense is to pack as much of the essentials as possible in your carry on. The cabins are really small anyway... Sorry, that probably didn't help. But seriously, IMO, avoiding Air Canada is a good start.

I always pack a days worth of clothing in my carry on- bathing suit, jammies, and clothing. I've had Delta once not exactly loose my luggage, it didn't make my connection, our first flight was delayed, so we made the connection, but our luggage didn't.
A word of advice- if they ask you if you have meds in your luggage- say YES! And you're going to die without it, lol. Seriously! I didn't! Lesson learned.
We were just at an airport hotel over night, then leaving for my moms. I told Delta we were just at the hotel over night, they assured me our luggage would be at our hotel first thing in the morning- not!!! It didn't arrive till 5pm.
We had to stay any pay for a late check out- Delta had no compensation for us.

So, lesson learned. Next time I'm asked- I have meds in the luggage I can't live without! Then they would prob have delivered it in the middle of the night.
They stop evening deliv. at 1:AM in Ft. Lauderdale!

how about making sure you have travel insurance with really good lost or delayed luggage/personal effects would be a very good start and help ensure that you can travel with peace of mind, and really is only a fraction of the cost of a vacation. Look into RBC travel insurance. They offer a very comprehensive plan

I'll second everything everyone else already said:goodvibes

Lost luggage makes for a painful vacation, for sure. It's disappointment, frustration, and a good dose of anxiety thrown in for good measure.

We're at 6+ years waiting for 4 suitcases AC lost.
But who's counting??
:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I've gotten over it, really, I have ;)

Take your essentials, swimsuits, pjs, one "good" outfit, jewellery - medications especially - in your carryon.

And if the "worst" happens, well, try to think of it as strangely freeing!!

Less to think about what to wear each day, and DCL laundry get really crowded - you'll be able to handwash in the luxury/privacy of your own bathroom;);)

Have a wonderful cruise!!

:)

Lost luggage is a random event. AC lost DH's luggage at Pearson on one occasion--luggage was delivered two days later. Some idiot walked off with my luggage in an airport arrivals area, mistaking it for their own--AC delivered it to our hotel the next day.
Lessons learned. If there is something you must have with you, put it in your carry-on. Carry one day's worth of clothing for each person in your carry-on luggage. Always cross-pack checked luggage--put 1/2 your clothing in your DH's checked bag, and 1/2 DH's clothing in your checked bag. Insure your luggage for loss.
