Lost Luggage and DME

As a veteran traveler I have experienced more then once having my luggage lost by an airline. Usually it was due to a tight plane change connection when an arriving flight was late, or my luggage not making its way to the plane at my originating airport. My bags have always eventually shown up; sometimes it took from several hours up to as long as overnight before the airline had them delivered to my destination.

My question for this group is; how does lost luggage work with DME? Every time mine was lost, I had to go to a lost luggage counter, file out some paperwork, and give an address where I was staying along with a description of the luggage. The way I understand DME, I won’t know if a bag is missing for several hours after we get to the hotel. Do we have to contact the airline at that point or is that something Disney helps with?

I’m not trying to be a pessimist here and we do have direct flights to MCO this trip, but I guess my curiosity has the better of me.

Actually, this is one of the huge advantages of Magical Express. If your luggage arrives on a later flight than you do, Disney will deliver it to you when they get it.

No waiting around baggage claim until after the last bag has come down the conveyor. No standing in line at the airline's baggage office. No filling out of reports. No need to make arrangements with the airline for luggage delivery.

When you check in at the DME Welcome Center, you'll be asked how many checked bags you have.

Disney has a sophisticated luggage tracking system. Disney will know if the airline failed to transfer your bags to Disney within a reasonable time after you checked in.

If your bags don't "magically appear" in your room after several hours, you can call your resort's bell service, and they'll be able to tell you the status of your bags.

Since you know that bags can be delayed by airlines, you undoubtedly also know that it's always a good idea to pack a carry-on with essential items that you'll need the first 12-24 hours — regardless of whether you do or don't use Magical Express.
 
Also, If the bag is delayed by the airline more than several hours and a claim does need to be put in, a DME CM will do it for you.

You may be asked for some of the information that is necessary to put in the claim (e.g. contents of the bag), but you will not have to come back to the airport nor stand in line. Just another service provided by DME.
