Lost key question........

We are leaving shortly and I am debating whether or not to add charging privileges on our room key. We are going with the dining package so the only thing that will be charged will be souvenirs and extra waters/drinks. I am worried what happens if you lose your card and somebody uses it to charge items. Is Disney good with charging back things you didn't purchase in case this happens. My husband has lost his room key twice during our last trip (found in the laundry at home), so I am worried that he will lose it again. Anybody lose their room key and have charges on it that didn't belong to them? And if so what happened? Just curious.

That's a great thing about it...there is a $500 limit placed on it and if it is lost you are not responsible for the charges and they immediately issue you a new key. Not like if you were to lose your credit card while you were at the parks....it too would be cancelled immediately, but you wouldn't be issued a new one as quickly. We always use this service that Disney provides! Tell your DH to be a little more careful! :goodvibes

FYI, the limits are higher for the mods and the deluxes. I guess they figure if you can afford the room, you can afford more charges.

That assumption is ridiculous! Maybe things have changed, but when we last stayed at the Poly our limit was $500 also.

Thanks for the quick replies. I never thought of the credit card needing to be cancelled and then not having one available. Good Point! I think I will give my DH one more chance at this, knowing that we will not be responsible for charges that we didn't charge up! One more quick question, can you only cancel and get a new room key at your resort, or can you do it elsewhere, such as Guest Services at the parks! Thanks for the help!

Just going on what I was told here. :) Please don't get upset at me! I read that it was $500 for the values, $1,000 for the moderates and $1,500 for the deluxes.

My limit every time I have stayed at a deluxe over the past 3 years, including my stay at GF that ended earlier this week was $1500.

I agree, this is correct. I have stayed at all 3 levels within the year and this is exactly what my limits were for each level.

BTW: I also lost my room key once and as soon as I realized I losted it, I headed straight to guest relations (we were at EPCOT) and reported it lost and they turned off the charging priviledges immediately and told me to stop by the front desk (CR) and pick up a new card. I too was worried that someone would charge.

Get one of those necklace things that has a fastpass holder on it. I keep my room key and a little cash in there and since it is around my neck feel better. I also put my AP in there too for that matter. Very convenient!

Can you please explain the necklace? I read the other day about getting something like that at Wal-Mart. Seems like someone else wrote that LLBean has something like that, too. Should everyone (including the kids) have one? or what do you do? Should I just wait and get one there?

Disney cm's are pretty good about comparing the signature on the card to the signed receipt, more than any other retailer I've seen. You could also write "check ID" on the back, that way you would have to show your driver's license every time.

Beware of just writing "check ID". Make sure you sign the card AND write "check ID". If all that's written is "check ID" the vendor is only obligated to compare the signature on the receipt to the signature on the card, not to the name on the card. So, if, for instance, Minnie "borrowed" Mickey's card, which only said "check ID" and she signed her name as Minnie on the receipt, and gave her Minnie ID, it wouldn't matter that the card said Mickey on it. Catch what I mean?

To the OP... I wouldn't worry to much about losing the card. Just don't leave it in your pocket. Instead put it in a wallet, lanyard pouch, or backpack pocket. I personally use a Dockers wallet that has a keyring on it that I attach to my belt loop. It never gets lost and gives me easy access when I need to charge something or get a FP.

Since your DH is prone to loosing his key, why don't you just put charging privlidges on your card. On our last trip they asked if I wanted my DS (10 and8) to have charging privlidges. :earseek: I declined. So I guess they can only give you the power. Best of luck with your decision you have been given some great ideas already.

Deanna :bored:

Is it possible to pay off the key at the end of each day so you can keep a track of how much you have spent or do you have to wait until you check out?

Everyone should have them for their tickets/key/card. You can pay 99 cents at Walmart or wait and pay about $4-$5 once you get there. They are great to simply hang in your room and grab them and throw them around your neck each day before you leave.

Thanks again. I don't know if my DH will wear that around his neck, I will have to check....it is good to know that you can turn the charging priviliges off at guest relations instead of having to go ALL THE WAY back to the resort. Putting charges only on my card is a good idea, he will LOVE THAT! LOL!! One more question though, if I put charging privileges on my card only and we have the dining plan, will he be able to use his card to pay for CS meals and snacks, or will that be turned off too. Anybody know? If not, that might be the solution!!

See this is why I love the DIS, someone always has a great ?.
I thought disney gave you something to put your key to the world in,and I did not know there was a limit to your spending!
Now I know to pack something, and I will buy the kids something at disney to keep their Id's safe.
* We have nascar things that we use to hold our tickets for the races.
A lot of companys give these out for free! Car companys and banks...(MBNA)
I would look on their web sites and try to email them for some free ones.

We just returned last Sunday from WDW Boardwalk and my husband mentioned that he had the same $1 in his pocket that he did when he left. The only problem with that is the suprise you get when you open the envelope on the morning that you leave. :cool1:
