Lost Item on SWA... what's next?

Yes, I'm going back. No, I'm not sick of it yet.

On Saturday, we flew home from WDW on Southwest flight 2072 (Orlando to Chicago, 5 pm EST to 7 pm CST). Earlier tonight, I realized that our Microsoft Zune player was left on the aircraft.

I called SWA at Midway to see if it had been turned it; it had not. I was told that the flight was not a connecting one and that it would have been cleaned out then and all items turned in that night.

Is there anything else I can do, other than just calling them to see if someone did the right thing and turned it in? I'm really bummed, as this was a gift and had lots of personal things on it.

No, other than calling SWA there isn't anything else you can do. If they find it and you've put in a claim for it they'll return it to you. If it's your home airport you can go down to the airport and ask there.

Even though they say the plane is "cleaned" out a small electronic may be overlooked, especially if it was in the seat back pocket. It may be a day or so later before it is located and they have no idea when it was left. Did you have your name and phone number listed on the back?

I have lost a few high dollar electronics on planes and now mark each of them clearly with contact info so that if it is turned in then maybe it will get back to me. Also good to put contact info on laptops and DVD players that you have to remove at TSA security check points. Can't tell you how many times I hear them making announcement for "the person who left a Dell laptop at security please return." Also many laptops look alike and you wouldn't want someone to accidentally take yours.

I did this with my laptop. I got some of the Mickey head paint chips at Home Depot, the lime green ones. I cut out the Mickey head and wrote my contact info on it. I then taped it to the back of my laptop.

I also laminated a few of the Mickey heads and put one on each checked bag for easy identification at baggage claim.

I didn't have any contact info on the item itself :headache: because it's usually in the carrying case, but I won't make that mistake again. Hopefully, it'll turn up in a few days. I did file a claim and I'll just keep checking.

In the meantime, I'm labeling everthing. Thanks for the responses.

A coworker of mine didn't realize till he was home that he had the wrong laptop. His laptop was in Chicago with another passenger and he was in Los Angeles. Talk about a mess to fix.

Mickey head is nice for personal electronics, but I don't think my employer would appreciate it so a biz card taped to the top is the best I could do.
