Came home last Friday (7/22) and wanted to share a great lost and found experience.

My 9 yr. old son's retainer (in its case) was lost while at the Animal Kingdom.

The last time he remembered having it was in the car, when we were park hopping from MGM to Animal Kingdom. (He took it out to have a snack).

We figured he just left it in the car. Later in the day, we get back to the car in the parking lot and no retainer. Oh boy, costs $200 to replace. The retainer case did have our name and address on it, so we had a little hope.

At the parks, He would normally hand it to my wife and she would put it in the outer pockets of the backpack whenever he ate or drank. Search the backpack, no luck, but the outer pocket zipper was not zipped.

On to Guest Services. We didn't want to get the tram, since we were down at the opposite end of the tram stop and it was hot. So we drive to entrance of the AK, so my wife can check at guest services. Driving to the entrance of the park in a full parking lot is not easy. Had to take the cab/bus lane to the front. My wife went over to guest services while the rest of us waited in the cab area. The cabbies weren't happy about this and honked a few times.
At AK guest services they didn't have the retainer, but confidently told my wife 'if it's here we'll find it" and that all lost items from all the parks were sent to the kennel office at the ticket & transportation center at the end of the day. We were skeptical, but decided to check the following day at the T&TC.

They had it!!! In fact, they had it ready to mail to us since the name and address were on the case. In fact, the gentleman behind the counter remember logging it earlier that day.

Here's a tip: Need a pair of sun glasses. They have a trash bag full of them at lost and found. :smooth:

Kudos to Disney!

I'm so gald you were able to find DS' retainer. You do not need the expense of replacing that. Big points too for being smart enough to have the address on the case. Nice to hear Disney are on the ball with lost items. I guess if they can reunite people and their property they will do.

In regards to the retainer, reminds me of a school ski trip many years back...I was doing pretty well staying upright, but kept getting wiped out by my friends. One time as I hit the snow my retainer went flying out across the piste. So all my friends and a couple of the teachers were scrabbling around in the snow looking for my yukky retainer. One of the teachers found it and (gross) put it in his pocket as he was sure I would lose it again. When I got back to my room that evening he had gift wrapped it, with bow, and left it on my pillow! It got a very good clean that night for sure. I left it off for the rest of the trip too.

Outstanding! that's great that you got the retainer back.... those cost some
serious $$$$$

Our best lost and found story was from DL. We were out there a few years ago. During the day, I discovered that I had lost my cell phone somewhere. I
figured out that I had lost it on the Autopia, getting out of the car... I checked
with the CM there, and it wasn't there (probably was already wending it's way
to the Lost&Found)... So's I checked at the Lost&Found in the MK there but they
didn't have it... They suggested to check in the AM... So's we get back to the
room (we were staying onsite at the DL hotel) and saw the message light
on the phone blinking. So, we called the front desk and the CM there said
that lost&found had my phone, and I could pick it up in the am..
So, we went back to lost&found and picked up the phone. We then asked them.."how did you know where we were staying??" They're answer....
"well, we checked your phone book, and saw an entry for Mom&Dad. We
called them and asked them if they knew if one of their kids was at DL?"
They said "why, yes, and he's staying at the DL hotel!".. So they called
the hotel..... Incredible. Only at Disney.

We got a cell phone back at epcot, too, through the usual method. (nothing
fancy this time)... A CM had found it in the women's restroom, and brought
it to guest relations and we had it a couple of hours later. Again, what theme
park would you ever hope to get something like a cell phone back but a
Disney park??

Two lost and found experiences on the same trip in May 2003.
On a monorail trip from MK to TTC to make the connection to Epcot my DW realized that she had left her fanny pack on the MK to TTC monorail after we had made the transfer to the Epcot monorail. We got off the Epcot monorail before it left the station and went back to the other monorail platform. We spoke to a CM on the platform who talked to the monorail pilot on the radio. The train was at the Polynesian at that time so the pilot checked the cars and found DW's fanny pack. He left it with a CM on the Poly platform and we took the next monorail to the Poly and picked it up.
Earlier that week while at DAK I was changing my shoes from sneakers to water sandles at the entrance to Kali River Rapids. I out our camera on the ground near the entrance to the ride while I changed my shoes and left it sitting there. I did not realize I had done this until about 5 minutes after finishing the ride. We went back to the entrance and talked to one of the ride CM's. He led us to a wooden cabinet to the side of the entrance path. He unlocked the cabinet and showed us a whole bunch of stuff that had been turned in. Our camera was on the top shelf right in front.
There must have been 20 or 30 items in that cabinet. There were hats, glasses [sun and perscription], hats, cameras, and a couple of small backpacks. After seeing all that stuff I didn't fell so stupid about me little camera.
We've been back twice since and have managed not to lose anything else.
