Losing weight = new running shoes?

I was fitted for running shoes in March and ended up with a pair of Brooks Glycerin 9. They were great and felt good until about mid-June. I've lost about 25-30 pounds since March and a few weeks ago, I finally admitted that the shoes weren't working for me any more. I developed more frequent knee and ankle pain and a killer pain in my right foot the first mile or so. I probably averaged only 12 miles a week. To me that doesn't seem like it would be too many miles and I only use them for running. Could it be the weight loss? Or, should I expect to replace my shoes every 3-4 months? DH is quite curious as to why the $100 running shoes I bought in March have just been replaced by another $100 pair of running shoes. The Brooks still look brand spankin' new so in his mind "They're still good." :lmao:

Did you buy the same shoes? Did you get fitted both times?

I lost ~50 pounds and went from pronating to a slight suppination. I had been switching my shoes based on mileage, but developed a very nasty case of itbs which is when they discovered I was no longer pronating but still wearing stability shoes.

The person at the shoe store was shocked, cause I guess they don't see that too often and said one thing that could cause it.....weight loss.:thumbsup2

So, in answer to your question, could be mileage, could be weight loss, could be both.:goodvibes

I only averaged about 250-300 miles on my shoes before they started feeling "done." I have switched to newton's and I am really hoping they last a little longer. Good luck!

Do you have a Road Runner Sports store nearby, or any other actual, true, running shoe store? Not a Footlocker or any other awful place like that, but a true running shoe store.

If so, go there and get re-sized.

My feet are in the process of changing, getting smaller and thinner. I tried on different shoes a month or so ago, when DH and DS got new shoes at RRS, but I'm not quite down to the next half size down, so I'm in the same shoes, biding my time until I can change the size. Weight gain caused my shoe size to increase (but I was in denial during that process), and loss is causing them to decrease!

At the running shoe store, you can also get a good idea of how many miles you can expect out of a given pair of shoes. I know my brother, who runs every single day (no days off for him unless he's really REALLY sick, which almost never happens), goes through shoes fast, so he always has *at least* 2 that he's rotating, and he only wears "retired" shoes for daily wear.

With the 40 lbs I've lost and the toning up of my legs getting more muscular, I've moved from a 4E shoe down to a 2E width shoe.

I also noticed that I was beginning to have a lot more leg and foot pain than I had been having. I got into the new pair of narrower shoe and immediately noticed that my foot was no longer sliding around in the toe box. I hadn't noticed that they were doing that until I wore the new pair of shoes for a run and then the old on the next run.
