Is it possible and if so what would be the best way?

I'm not sure I need 5 pounds but some would be good. I've gained some weight and I'm heading to Florida next week and my shorts are a little snug.
Any thoughts?

South Beach Diet Phase I.

Don't know if you will lose 5 lbs - but I am sure, if you follow it to a T, that you will feel your shorts are a bit less snug.

I know that feeling. Drink lots of water, exercise and don't eat after dinner. That's what I do when i want to drop a few. I usually can do 4 pounds if I stick to it for a week. No junk food either.

Is that like Atkins? Atkins makes my gallbladder very unhappy. ;)

As soon as I get back its time to buckle down and get going on WW again. I had lost a lot of weight on that.

It's low carb, low fat, high protein, as opposed to no carb, moderate fat, high protein. I like it much better, although you will not be able to drown your sorrows in cheese! :lmao:

Phorse, I have been stuck at the same poundage for flippin ever and have run out of ideas myself. At age 50 I have tried everything and ready for the newest fad. :thumbsup2

That's why diets are hard for me. I love my cheese! :lmao:

Here's what I do when I need to lose some quick weight:

Cereal! Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Any kind is fine, two bowls at one meal is fine. You'll be hungry, but it works.

As a previous poster already mentioned, lots of water and excerise, but don't just do cardio, lift weights as well. I know what you're thinking, "I don't want to gain muscle mass," am I right? Most people say that when I mention this to them. You don't have to gain muscle mass when you lift weights, lift light weights and do high reps. So for instance, when I do the bench press, I will only put on 25 pound weights on the bar and do 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. By doing high reps you're toning the muscles, and gaining strength as well. Do cardio every day and weights every other day.

Right now the only exercise I can do is walk and stretching without going through my Dr. (because of my heat attack).

I don't know if I could eat just cereal. At work I do have a salad with FF dressing every day.

Do you have any protein in your salad? Lean protein, like chicken breast or tuna (plain tuna - not mayo tuna!) and a sliced hard boiled egg will keep you fuller much longer. Try that!

I am doing the Special K 2 week challenge (on week 2) and last week I lost 7#...

Someone forgot to follow the new rules.

How motivated are you? There is a 48 hour hollywood diet you can buy at Target and Walmart. What about eating fruits, veggies, grilled chicken all week?

Walking can certainly help. My DMiL has dropped a lot of weight by getting on her treadmill and walking for 3 miles every morning. All it takes is some kind of exercise.

I have lost 5 pounds and more in a week. My plan:

Lots and lots of water - most of the weight you will lose will be water.

No snacks after 8:00 pm - I go to bed late, make it earlier if you go to sleep early.

Cut out as much fat and add as much fiber as possible. Some of my meals for example -

Breakfast: cereal with skim milk, low-fat/no-fat yogurt with wheat bran, wheat (or any whole grain) bread with low-fat/no-fat spread or cream cheese or with no fat cheese, egg whites

Lunch: Salad with low fat/no fat dressing, turkey on any grain bread with lettuce, tomato, onion; tuna salad made with no-fat mayo or musturd, 1 slice pizza (bad I know but limited to 1 you can make up the fat), grilled chicken, soup with grain bread or salad

Dinner: Small portions of meat with lots of veggies, pasta with tomato sauce (no cream base sauces)

Fast Food: Hamburger Kids Meal

Snacks: Fruit (watermelon is good), Veggies especially celery, no fat yogurt, no fat ice cream, baked chips, unsalted pretzels, no fat cheese

And walk every day. I prefer before dinner.

I lost 7 pounds my first week on Weight Watchers (I did the online program, I didn't do the meetings in person. Cheaper and more conveinant for me). Sure some of it was water, but it gave me the boost I needed to stick with it. I lost 30 pounds in about 6 months (7 pounds the first week and about 1.5 to 2 pounds per week after that).

I love it because it teaches you not just what to eat, but how much. And you can eat every day food and eat out at restaurants, and still stay on the program. My mother, aunt, and SIL all were successful with it, WW really works (as long as you stick with it, that is!).

Good luck!

It will be miserable, but you could do a liquids only diet for a day or two similar to that required before surgery. Clear broths, sugar free jello, low calorie cranberry or apple juice in moderation, water, diet pop, coffee, tea, etc. Maybe alternate with lean meats and veggies every other day for a week.
