'Lorne's Magical Milestone Birthday' Trip Report

great update and pics. seems like a fun day and a relaxing day.

Oh that just sounds like a lovely day and I really love the rose petal turndown! I am a sucker for all things romantic like that!

Allyson :)

Palo is the best. Perhaps the best service I've received--EVER. The food is excellent and the ambience...well no need to say anything........

You were very busy. I usually just lay by the pool..

I'm glad I now have reviews of some of the seminars.....Thanks Cathy.

Palo is unbeatable, as far as I'm concerned. It was busy...but fun!!:goodvibes

:lmao:

Sounds like such a fabulous day!

Chel, it was indeed a fabulous day!

glad you liked the pics.

What a great update! My, you did a lot of running around. I didn't get to half the seminars you got to in one day! :faint:

I know that you both loved your verandah because everytime I took a picture of our room, you were standing at your rail. :)

What camera do you have?

You should have just yelled at me to GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!
Seriously, Wendy, I hope I didn't ruin any shots for you.:flower3:

Funny, 'cause we were thinkin' we didn't use it enough:laughing:

I loved this update!! Thank you so much for talking about the tours and seminars. It sounds like there is so much to do on board. I am going to try to talk Bill into Bingo, he is very lucky when it comes to stuff like that.

There are so many things I want to try now after reading your report.

We debate on whether or not to try PALO. We are simple people with simple tastes. Some things sound really good though, we might venture out, you never know.

The romantic turn down with the rose petals is awesome :thumbsup2. Thanks again for sharing your trip with us.

Tracey,
Like the parks, you just can't do it all, believe it or not. There's a whole lotta stuff we're gonna do next time. I play BINGO here at home, from time to time and enjoy it. On the ship, its still fun, but quite $$$$. I did not play all the sessions.
Its $35 a session, which consists of (if I recall correctly) 4 games. I saw winnings of just over $100 to just over $400. Then, at the end of the cruise there is the super jackport game. The winner got over $3000. It cost $50 to play that session. So, if Bill is lucky...go for it!!
As for Palo, we also are meat-and potato kinda people, with simple pallettes. But, for the small surcharge it was certainly fun to try out different things. The service, as I have said is unbeatable. You really should try it. You can always order a steak or filet.

We have never had a turndown like that before..It was very nice.

Love the update! Palo sounds great - will have to look in to that next time. And the romantic turn down service - how sweet! Sounds like you did some awesome activities during the day too. Can't wait for more! :)

Michelle, Palo's service and food just can't be beat. And for the measly little surcharge, it would be a shame to miss it. Thanks for the encouragement. ;)
More coming right up!!

We again had moderate seas (4’-8’) during the night. The one and only time we did NOT have moderate seas, we had ‘wavelets’…so there was absolutely no issues with seasickness. Boy, the gentle rocking of the ship sure does help you sleep. Zzzzz

We enjoyed breakfast in the room this morning, just muffins, coffee and juice. We were tendering into Grand Caymen today. We decided to just walk town around a little bit, then spend the better part of the day on the ship. There were a lot of ships there and it was fun to see all the different types of tender boats. Looked like rush hour at times.

We didn’t spend a lot of time there, but we picked up a couple of trinkets. I did take a couple of shots.
Some colorful residents.

The clouds began to darken, so that was our sign to return.

On the return tender, I happened to catch Goofy helping his human counterparts, (or was it the other way around?) spruce the place up a little bit. I REALLY LIKE THIS SHOT.

It was time for lunch. Up on deck 9, DH had a cheesburger & fries, and I had a pannini (sp?) with fresh fruit. We then went to deck 4 to try out those fabulous chairs everyone was taking about. I don’t know what the draw is…..I found them very boring. :confused3 So boring in fact, the Lorne had to wake me up a couple of times, because I was beginning to snore!!! How embarrassing!! LOL!!! Those are the BESTEST chairs. I wondered if I could smuggle one off… I didn’t think so.

We tried our hand at wii bowling. It was a lot of fun. I could see how you can easily get hooked on these games.

Since we enjoyed the matinee so much yesterday, we decided to do it again today. Cruise Director Christiaan introduced the show, “Twice Charmed”
Apparently, if you have the DVD of Enchanted, the extras disc shows the making of this show. He told us there are more electronic cues in this show than in the Phantom of the Opera.

As you can see, some of the show is in black and white, a la Animator's Pallete.

but of course, the color returns.

After the show, Lorne returned to the room, and I went to the art auction. On a previous (NCL) cruise, we had purchased some pieces from the same company. I did not buy anything, but my bidder number was drawn, so I did win a prize worth “at least $650” that I could pick out later that evening. There were several others who won too. My appointment time for the pickup was set at 7:15.

After a short rest, we went to Animator’s Palette for dinner. I was really looking forward to this show. I was excited when I saw that even the menus were ‘animated’.

I had wild mushrooms in puff pastry, squash soup and maple glazed salmon. For dessert, I had strawberry shortcake. Lorne had Ceasar salad, Filet mignon, and Boston Cream Pie. We both enjoyed our dinners very much. I must say that I was a bit underwhelmed with the color display. Our monitor above the table (#5) was not working properly, and I kept waiting for something really special to happen when it went to color. We had to leave to get to the appointment for choosing the art I had won. We had a choice of 5, and for us it was an easy selection. We were returning to the AP to speak some more with our tablemates, and in the corridor we saw Sorcerer Mickey :wizard: coming out of the restaurant. I guess we missed the ‘show’. I had thought that during the course of dinner, the colors simply ‘appeared’. I thought wrong, I guess. If I’d known, I would have changed my appointment to a later time. Now I was REALLY disappointed. :( Oh well, another MUST-DO for our next trip.
When we got back to the room, we had a friend waiting for us. Our towel animal that night was the giant sea turtle.

This is my very favourite !! The picture does not do it justice at all. I think it looks like roadkill. The ‘shell’ was (obviously) the blanket, but it was wrapped around one of the big fluffy bed pillows. I wish I had taken the shot from a different angle.

Lorne just wanted to rest in the room, so I went to jackpot BINGO. Again, nothing. My life’s story at BINGO.
I got back in the room just in time to watch Evan Almighty on the TV. Cute movie.

Tomorrow…..champagne breakfast and Cozumel….

You had the right idea spending most of your time on the ship during your stay at Grand Caymen. Was it not pretty much empty?

Those lounge chairs on Deck 4....heaven...and I saw many people "resting" on those chairs....;)

The ship was very quiet...it was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice ;)

I'm glad you weren't on our cruise. J/K....But Don't you take pictures of people sleeping, too?

Love the update - I'm really in need of a cruise right about now! I've only done the 3 day and would love to do a longer one next time. You've done so many things that I want to try! Love the sea turtle animal on the bed!
