Just in case anyone was curious... some friends of mine and I got the Lord of the Rings Risk game this weekend and *man* is that fun!! We all agree it's better than the original Risk. Instead of just attacking each other, you have missions to complete so you have a purpose in your attacks beyond just gaining all the territories. And the game has a kind of built-in timer that involves the ring, so none of our games lasted more than 3 hours. If you've played Risk before, you know how long a full game of that can last!

It does look like they may be releasing a Return of the King Risk that can be a companion board to the Lord of the Ring, so if you buy the game, don't be surprised if you end up having to buy another game to finish the set.

Sounds really neat. Where did you get it? DS would really like something like that for Christmas since he is such a big LOTR fan. Me, I just like Orlando:p

We got ours from either Kaybee or Toys R Us. It was DH's Christmas present, and we haven't played it yet. :o It looks really complicated... And yes - I think there is one or two more boards that need to be added. (I thought there was a Two Towers board coming out too?)

We got ours at Target, but I've also seen it at Kay Bee Toys and Toys R Us

KK -- The first game covers both Fellowship Of The Ring and The Two Towers -- if you notice, Helm's Deep is covered on the bottom portion of the board. It says somewhere in the instructions that the only thing not covered is Mordor, from the third movie.

The game sounds really complex and was hard to understand when we were reading the instructions, but it's actually a lot easier to play than it sounds. We all picked it up after one turn each, and the additions they've made to the game (which make it so much more complex) like the Missions and Events and stuff are *so* much fun.

My 14 y.o. DS just picked this game out for his birthday present. He really wanted Axis and Allies(another board game), but we couldn't find it and when he saw the Risk game at Toys r us-he decided that would be just as good. I haven't played it, but he and his friends have. He is a big Lord of the Rings fan.

Lynn - Axis and Allies is available from amazon.com for $35. There appears to be quite a few fans of that game on the internet (including www.axisandallies.org).

I'm going to have to pick up LOTR Risk for DD Sarah. I know that she and her friends will love it.

I got this for my Birthday in January!!! It is sooo much fun!!!!!! I love it!!!!

Sounds really cool. Risk has always been one of my favorite board games.

towncrier- thanks, I did look there but shipping was over $8 so I think I'm going to check periodically for shipping discounts or codes to get it for Christmas. Usually if the shipping isn't too bad and there is no sales tax, I order from there but this time I was going to be charged both(over $10total), so I told him he'd have to wait.

I guess that games must be excluded from the "free shipping and handling" for orders over $25. I agree that Amazon seems excessive in the shipping and handling department.

I picked up a copy of LOTR Risk on the way home from work. I think that I just moved up several points on the "good dad" scale with my daughter.
