Doesn't matter if the goods are contaminated and won't ever be sold. If it's not yours, it's stealing.

But it's not really so much that as it's to restore order as well.

When you speak of "goods" I would agree with you if as it's been stated before it is items that are not neccesary to survival and/or comfort. Otherwise I would respectfully disagree. I can't in my wildest imagination know how these poor people feel. Tired, cold, hungry, grief-stricken, in pain??

What were they filling their carts up with?
Weren't those police officers taking bottled water to hand out to people? That's the only thing I had heard about concerning police officers taking things. :confused3

I saw the same thing as Kycha. Two female police officers were taking a cart load of shoes from Walmart. When approached by the reporter, one of them just kind of pushed by him and said she was doing her job. He asked her if doing her job meant stealing shoes. She ignored him and kept on going. The police chief of NO saw the film and said that the officers were morally bankrupt and acted like they would be dealt with.

If they were taking shoes maybe they were for people who needed them? I would certainly consider that a neccesity. If you would have said CD players or something along those lines..I may think differently but not shoes.

I too saw that video & there was nothing humanitarian about what those officers were doing. :( They were shopping for/stealing shoes of all things & just watching the other looters raid the store. The city should fire their sorry butts!!!

Why would anyone need a pair of heels right now? IF they were picking up things for others then they shouldn't have had a problem talking to the reporter who followed them. They wouldn't have acted like they got caught doing something & wanting to keep their faces off camera when they were questioned. One said that she was doing her job stopping looters. If she thought that was happening while she was deciding on a pair of heels, then standing at the end of the row, she was very delusional IMO. She never said one word to any of the looters.

I am not going to judge anyone in regards to what they are doing. I don't agree with a lot of the behavior, but most of these people who are still there had no means to leave and are going to be the ones who suffer the most. They have no food, no shelter, and a feeling of abandonment. I have never been in this type of situation and am very thankful for that. Earlier on the news they showed a women who's husband died right next to her. There was nothing she could have done and was told by authority figures she may want to move the body or away from the body so the smell doesn't get too bad. That was not the most PC thing to say to someone who just lost her husband, but they (the authority figures) have a job to do as well to rescue people who are still stuck in the flooded city. They should have shown more compassion, however, they are probably as tired and ragged as the next person down there. I don't think we need to shoot anyone or judge them. MHO.

I didn't see the video but it seems to me there is a rush to judgement here. Don't you think the police officers make enough money to buy shoes at the Walmart? These are people who put their life on the line for us everyday and I think they deserve a chance to defend themselves in this lynch mentality mania. I think some of the "attitudes" and "judgements" going on here are as bad as some of the looters actions. Flame away.
