loosening restrictions on face masks outside

I just don't see how Disney is able to make a change based on what vaccinated people can do when 1) how do you tell who is vaccinated?; 2) children aren't eligible yet; and 3) "outdoors" is a bit different than slammed together in a crowded theme park where distancing isn't possible. Don't get me wrong, as someone who is fully vaccinated, I'm ready to be done with masks, especially out in the Florida heat, but I don't really expect Disney to make a drastic change unless the CDC guidance change is more than what they have hinted at so far. Maybe by fall, when everyone who wants a vaccine for themselves or their kids has had a chance to get one.

With so many indoor rides I can't see the enforcement of only wearing indoors. As it is, too many people remove their masks on rides.

To the poster who mentioned the Today show .... why are they all six feet apart? They're all vaccinated.
Five of the Today show on air staff received their first dose on April 7... that means their second dose will most likely be tomorrow which makes them still 2+ weeks away from being considered fully vaccinated (in the US at least, I know some other countries consider 7 days post 2nd dose to be fully vaccinated).

I didn't realize it was so recent. Thanks!

I say start with dropping masks at the water parks for all areas. Then outside at the resorts and pool areas .

I agree, this would be a good first step and I think would be met with very little resistance.

My understanding was that masks are already not required at Blizzard Beach EXCEPT in a few instances (gift shop, restaurant, etc.).

Similarly, resort pool areas do not require a mask. It will be interesting to see when the rest of outdoor areas are treated the same way. You really do have to question the logic of requiring a mask to walk to the pool, but as soon as you are on the other side of the gate, you don't need it anymore.

On an unrelated note, maybe the "Theme Parks Community" board should be renamed the "Mask Thread Graveyard" board. :joker:

That’s likely. I have to ask, is there something different in your disboards setup that doesn’t allow you to ignore threads you have no interest in? Or is there some other explanation for wanting to control what other people say or do? There are literally hundreds of threads a day that, by title alone, I can tell I have no interest in, and yet don’t find the need to go into them to tell people I disagree and dislike their choice of thread. You are an ever present voice in all mask threads, I’m a little disappointed you haven’t done the “no more mask threads” to be honest. Good day sir or ma’am.
I only do that in the news forum because I don’t think they belong there (and it appears the webmasters agree). This ain’t the news forum. You also are able to ignore me you can literally put me on ignore and I will disappear...

I doubt anything will change for WDW in the immediate future. In addition to CDC guidance, wasn't the mask requirement built into the return-to-work agreement with the CM union? It may be more complicated to drop some of the safety protocols if such are embedded into a union contract.
Yes, a new agreement would need to be reached. It’s not an unmanageable hurdle but it will take time.

I suspect the contract references CDC guidelines. Providing a hard date for masks to go away would be weird given we had/have no idea which direction things are going. Just a guess tho, I have not read the contract.

I heard Fauci say yesterday it was “common sense” that masks aren’t necessary outside. We have been following that since the beginning but when we are outside we are also not close to other people. Harder to do at a busy place like Disney.

Outside NOT in crowded places. Thats the problem, people take a fraction of the truth and run with it. Masks in outdoor crowds like Disney has are definitely still necessary.

It does add that masks "may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with people who live in your household."

The CDC still recommends fully vaccinated people wear a mask in indoor public settings, and at outdoor public settings or venues where masks are required.

I am the OP of this thread and i began it based on today's recent changes in cdc guidelines which affects my own theme parks and strategies if it should change for wdw parks. People questioned why there is another 'mask' thread, I would assume any recent news that affects theme parks strategies fits into this category. If it's not a moderator will change it.
Example, what to pack, what to bring into the parks(extra masks or just one), mindset strategy. If someone doesn't like a thread, don't hop on it is my opinion, why are you wasting your time of day with things you aren't interested in?
No need for rude comments on any thread, dis is a safe space. We are supposed to be friends, no?

I am saying no masks at the water at all, no masks even walking to the bathrooms or drink/bar area of the pool areas and being able to sit in outside areas of the resorts.

Honestly the CDC guidelines always suggested you could be unmasked when outdoors and away from others. This doesn't seem like a big change to the outdoor mask guidelines at all. Sigh. I imagine Disney's protocols and policies will remain as they are.
