Loosening Grooming Guidelines?

I recently watched an episode on the Travel Channel concerning the MGM studios in Paris... I recall wondering at the time if they had different dress codes for the CM's over there - as it seemed so...

This is all new except for the mustache. They started allowing those a couple of years ago.

The mustache thing happend in 2000. We were at WDW for the WDAC mini conventin in March, and while waiting for the bus we as this article in the fornt page of the newspaper! Thought that was a bit much.

Anyway, our guidelines (for TDS) changed a little last year. We are now allowed to wear hoop earings (us ladies). We are allowed to wear nail polish, of certain colors, and we can wear black sneakers if we are wearing slacks at work. Only once have I worn a skirt with black tights and flats. Never again - i don't just stand around, I need something more comfortable!

Has anyone read the paper lately & found out that men & women are now allowed to wear cornrows?

Call me crazy...... but.....

Where IS Disney headed with this?

More like the "hood" (Sorry I call 'em as I see 'em)

Swamp Fox

I'm just happy Disney made the decision...this should improve the guest experience by 30-40 fold. I often see some very sad or grumpy CM's and I know that if they had cornrows everything would be better.

:p

Even 10 year old girls from the burbs wear cornrows as a memento of their trip to the Virgin Islands or even Disney or wherever...I don't have a huge problem with this.:)

EUROPA that was good I needed a good laugh.

I agree with your point.

If the dress standered is no longer needed, why did Disney have one?

I think the tighter the dress code, the more of a qualifier it becomes.

If a person wants a hair style more than a job at Disney than they need not apply.
But a person that is willing to make a small personal sacrifice may make a better CM. I don't know if this is true, but it may keep out some of the "I just need a job" crowed.

I'm just wondering what peoples objections to cornrows are. They are in fact a relatively neat way to keep ones hair groomed and out of ones face/food etc...

I also found it funny that for years facial hair wasn't allowed. I wonder if they would of asked Walt to shave his?

I can't speak for anyone but myself, a guest, but to me it is nothing to do with cornrowes (I like Tarzan) and everything to do the loosening of Disney standards.

If Disney did this to boost moral, they should try to stop cutting hours and jobs. I am not an insider so maybe I am way off here. Perhapes a CM can speculate on their motavation for loosening the requirements.

does this mean I can wear my p*rocks t-shirt?

Whoa. Telling a woman that she can now wear hoop earrings no larger than a dime and allowing her the option of slingback shoes is hardly a loosening of standards. Don't worry. Women are still told what colors of eyeshadow, lipstick, and nail polish they may wear. They are still told only one ring per finger, only one earring per ear. Hosiery is still mandatory. Underwear and deodorant are still mandatory. The grooming guidelines have only slightly been relaxed.

As to moustaches, when it was amended to allow them you could not grow them on company time. I guess they expected everyone to grow their facial hair on vacation or maybe extremely hirsute men could do it in a weekend. The company thought scraggly facial hair would ruin the show for guests.

And the cornrows can only come to the collar, must be neat, tightly braided and straight. Allowing young men a clean, presentable, and fashionable option that is still above ears and collars, as per grooming guidelines, is not something to get worked into a lather about. Dreadlocks, mohawks, designs shaved into buzzcuts and long hair are still out for men.

Underwear and deodorant are still mandatory.
And just how do they police this requirement...............................

Is is by the **sniff, sniff - drop trou** method, or some other routine

Sadly, yes in some instances. My friend once had to prove she was wearing undergarments because she had no visible panty lines :o and I had the pleasure of counseling another CM about washing hair and bathing regularly, and the theory behind deodorant. We went on the honor system unless we had reason to suspect otherwise.

Does Disney post when they have job openings in the panty police department .

...sad to see that somepeople are are still at the "theory" stage of this product. :) Man I wouild hate to have to tell that person about deodorant.

I had the unfortunate job of working with someone that never changed his clothes or bathed while I was stocking overnight at super walmart... Let's just say if he walked by, you could smell him there 5 minutes later... NO JOKE! He got lectured twice by upper management about the grooming standards before they "forced" him out of working there... which I DID agree with that one time!
