I recently got diagnosed with tranverse myelitis. Basically there is inflammation in spinal cord and brain stem. Over the last 2 months I lost control and feeling in the lower part of my body. I just got out of the hospital but recovery will be slow. It may take months to get back to normal, if that.
DH has used up so much sick leave to care for me and may not have anything left for vacation time.

I haven't bought DL tickets but flights have been booked and Legoland tickets have been bought. Hotels can be canceled but we may lose out on flights and maybe even LL since idk when we would reschedule our trip since i have no idea how long recocery will be.

I am so bummed

Eta i realize you all don't know me from a hole in the wall so I'm not looking for any sympathy on my health. I just wanted to vent to others who would understand how much it sucks to be excited for a trip like this and then to have no control over it and have to cancel. Someone cry with me!

I'm sorry about all of it except that you're out of the hospital and can look forward to recovery.

So, so sorry! That really is a big bummer. I do agree with bumbershoot that the good news is you're recovering! But man, that is a tough break. I hope you get a big positive surprise sometime to counter it :) Keep well and get back on your feet soon.

:( May you have a successful recovery! And here's hoping you can get refunded on those airline tickets, I know that can be next to impossible.

I'm so sorry to hear of your misfortune.
Often if you can explain to the airlines, etc. what exactly is going on they will give you something back.

Good luck,
Scott

I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles and that you won't get to visit DLR when you had planned.

I hope you are able to explain your situation to the airline and LL and either get refunds or are able to save credits to be used later. My mom and grandmother were coming out to visit me once and a week before they were going to come, my grandmother fell in the yard and broke her arm at her shoulder socket, which was very painful for her and she could not travel. They had tickets through Delta and when my mom called and explained what happened, Delta didn't penalize her at all with the tickets and basically let her retain a credit that she used later with no problem.

I am so, so sorry! I think all of us on DIS understand how horribly sad and disappointing that is! I hope you get better and can make another trip soon. Hopefully the airlines and Legoland will help you out with that.

I'm sorry you have to cancel your trip. Just take some time to heal and get back in the parks as soon as you are ready! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thanks everyone. I kinda expect to take a loss but I've been planning this trip for 2 years! I may hold out a little more. Who knows? Maybe I'll make a magical recovery? :) doubt it but i don't want to miss the 60th!!

I know some close friends who were in a similar situation.

What airline is it? Worst case (for most airlines) is that you cancel your flight and pay a certain fee to cancel and the rest of the money goes into a travel bank account (like LizzyS mentioned). I would call the airline and explain the situation. With a note from your doctor you may be able to just transfer the entire amount into their travel bank and use it later. I know Southwest Airlines use to allow you to transfer the entire amount to another person's travel bank, which I have also seen done.

Also call Legoland customer service. My friends had their Six Flags MM tickets refunded when they called and explained the situation. Perhaps Legoland will do the same; or maybe they could give you vouchers for 2016 or later.

I know how you feel. We had to cancel our California trip last year due to health issues. I was in tears for a few days as I was set to see my sister who I hadn't seen in over two years. We were booked on JetBlue and we were able to cancel our flights without any change fees. That was just luck because JetBlue has a policy that if your flight time changes by more than 2 hours from your original booking you can cancel without a change fee. Lucky for us our flight times had changed by just over 2 hours since original booking.

I know how disappointing it can be when you have to cancel a trip. But, just know that your next trip will be that much sweeter. Trust me on this...we are leaving for California in 9 days and I'm really appreciating our ability to travel this year.

All my best for a healthy recovery! Sending positive vibes your way... :)

.....

Only the ticketed traveler can get a credit for unused travel funds on Southwest. Change ticket fees average $200 for domestic flights; that is why I buy travel insurance.

Oh man, I am so sorry. My gallbladder ruined a Vegas vacation for in in 2009, so I have a tiny inkling how it feels (granted, that wasn't early as bad as TM, and it was Vegas, not Disney...) Taking the financial hit on top of getting so sick is like rubbing salt into the wound.

I can definitely empathize with you! We had to cancel a WDW trip one year due to my health. And now I was just diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease and have started treatment....which sadly makes you worse before better. I am praying we can make our trip to DL in 5 weeks!!
Hugs and healing to you!!!!

You WILL to go to DLR again and just think how wonderful it will be to arrive after what you have been through. It is a bummer to lose out on your purchases but it should be the last thing on your mind as you recover. In the meantime, visit the boards, watch Disney movies and get yourself in the Disney mood. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Praying for a quick recovery for you! I totally understand the disappointment. We have had to cancel a trip before and it is just heart breaking when you were so looking forward to it.
